Pardon me for venting a little but this is something I don't understand about people. I like going to lunch at the local bakery when my son is out west with his dad (my husband). It saves me the trip to drive an hour for (better priced) groceries and their soups are fantastic.

Today my mom texted me to find out what I was doing for lunch, so I mentioned that I was going to be at the bakery. She asked if she could join me. Sure. No problem.

I get there early so I can pick a good table, get my soup and chocolate milk and get settled. Mom comes in about five minutes later and joins me. I tell her all the things that I've been learning lately, we discuss family, blah blah blah.

Then this woman who is a mutual acquaintance of both my mother and me comes in. The group that she usually sits with has filled up their table so she just naturally assumes that because there are two extra chairs at our table, that she is invited to sit and have lunch with us. If I wasn't the pseudo-polite person that I am, I'd have said something to the effect of "Why are you sitting down at my table?" or just gotten up and left. Instead, I sat there while this woman just completely took over conversation and would hardly let someone else get a word in edgewise!

Why do people do this? I could never bring myself to be so presumptuous that I would invite myself to lunch with people I know, LET ALONE people I know only on a casual basis. Tomorrow I think I'll get my soup to-go.

Most people don't give a tiny s**t what some others (who they might consider as inferiors?) think about them, she basically sat at your table because she had s**t to say and she wanted to say it right at that moment and nothing in the world would ever stop her from saying it, it's like a life mission to say the stuff she had to say, like imagine what would happen if she forgot what she had to say.

I'd say she's extremely obsessive-compulsive and probably someone who needs to chill out and get a rest.

It surely is very annoying. I find it very frustrating when people barge in on a conversation and completely take over, like whatever you were talking about before doesn't matter, at all. I enjoy private conversations with some people but I'm not good at keeping up with chatty people I don't know well, so I end up completely left out of a conversation.

Re-reading the original post, it seems to me that her behavior is an annoyance to everyone, otherwise her friends would have made room for her at their table.

Ooh- good point!

I agree- that is incredibly rude. She had no idea what you were talking about, and taking over the table and conversation was incredibly rude and selfish on her part. That was time you should have been able to spend with your Mom unless you and your Mom decided to invite her in. Horrible social skills she has...

I can't stand people like that.
