Predator: So ... are you a decoy, or Chris Hansen, or police?

Girl: Decoy *friendly smile*

Moral of the story: The decoy is so naive, she doesn't even know she is trying to hurt the predator (hence friendly smile). She thinks Chris Hansen and police are "bad guys" while she is the "nice" one trying to give predator a company. She has no idea she effectively enables the "bad guys", that's why she feels she has nothing to hide (hence the admission she is a decoy).

You need to work on your material if you ever hope to become a stand up comedian. Was there even a joke in there somewhere? It was just totally incomprehensible.

By joke I mean a short cartoon-type story that shows some human characteristics taken to the extreme. So this particular joke is supposed to illustrate the naive character of decoy. It is a joke because the above conversation never actually happened (decoy would always deny that it is a sting) but at the same time the pretend naivette of decoy is obvious when you watch the show. Thus the above cartoon exaggerates the naive character of decoy by making her "even more" naive than she actually is (hence I call it a joke).

It illustrates the fact that you're coming out with nonsensical twaddle. It doesn't mean anything to any of us.

there is little to salvage from the wreckage of my attempt to conceptualize how what you said could be construed as a joke, however i have salvaged some useful ideas from it.

i guess it could be viewed as amusing if the girl was a very convincing android that was being used (in order to minimize danger to an actual human) to conduct the "sting".

it would be amusing if the programmers of the android's "verbal response" facility did not anticipate or allow for a question of that type, and so the android's response is, by default, factual.



it would be amusing if, whilst the android's linguistic response may have been very factual, it is in no way interlinked with the androids facial expression generator that is designed to lure predators to even greater temptation, and so the 2 aspects of the concept are at odds with each other, but never the less, i think you would not be able to deliver a joke such as that to an appreciative audience.

Who is Chris Hansen anyway?

Had to google to refresh my memory as well.

If you're familiar with American TV he is that square jawed reporter who is now most famous for doing that undercover reality news show (to 'catch a predator') in which underage teen girls go on line to lure men.

And then he films the guys when they show up on the girls doorstep with wine, and condums, and then confronts the guys on camera ( and tells them they are on national TV). Somewhat contraversial show.

Okay, so the OP's post makes more sense now....although I still wouldn't call it humorous.

they have "decoys" that are young sounding people who interact with the predators on line, and they lure the predators to their "address" whereupon the predators realize that they are busted, and that is the best part of that show. their reactions are so interesting because i like to hear how people explain away why they are at the address that they are at with no sufficient reason

That show isn't in production anymore right? I always found it strange that none of those guys ever tried to attack Chris Hansen. Or maybe they did but it was never aired...

Okay you are on the right track in terms of trying to think up the story behind the above exchange. That is where the humor is supposed to be. But in my mind I am thinking of another kind of story, the one with the naive human being a decoy as opposed to mashine. What I suggest is the following explanation:

Decoy has different purpose from Chris Hansen and police (they were just "lucky" in a sense that their conflicting purposes require the same actions, hence they collaborate). As far as Chris Hansen and police are concerned, they want to get the predator in trouble. As far as decoy is concerned, she wants a predator to enjoy himself. As a matter of fact, she is probably upset that predator is about to go to jail. This, however, does not stop her from engaging the predator because of either or both of the following:

1. She realizes that rapists KNOW that they will go to jail after the rape yet they find the experience of rape worthwhile. Thus, she concludes that the temporary pleasure the predator experiences will be worthwhile as well

2. She is simply naive so she does not realize that she is the ultimate reason the predator will get busted

In light of the fact that she thinks her interests are "in favor" of a predator, she has nothing to hide. That is why she admits to being a decoy. On the other hand, since she knows that interests of Chris Hansen and police are against the predator, she feels that she is bringing good news by saying "don't worry I am neither Chris Hansen nor police, I am a decoy", hence the friendly smile.

I mean think of it this way. Suppose you were thinking you are about to die of cancer, and then someone tells you you don't have cancer. That would be good news, wouldn't it. Now why would it be? After all, even if you don't have cancer, you will still die once you reach old age. Well the reason those are good news, is that you don't care what happens several decades later, you care that you won't die within coming few years. Now, predators have "even stronger" tendency to "live in the moment" (after all, when they rape someone, they don't care they will be going to jail tomorrow, they only care about the good experience at the moment). Thus, if you tell a predator "dont worry you are not going to jail today, you are going to jail tomorrow" it would be good news for them, even though it wont be good news for ordinary people. And guess what, the equivalent to saying the above is saying "dont worry I am neither Chris Hansen nor a police, I am decoy". That implies they got a little while to enjoy with decoy before being confronted by Chris Hansen, and that is all they care about, hence its a good news for them. The fact that decoy thinks those are good news (for reasons just explained) is reflected both in her openness about said good news as well as her smile.

Now, according to the joke-story, decoy has different motives from either Chris Hansen or police. As far as Chris Hansen or police are concerned, they care about "future" (namely, putting a predator to jail tomorrow). On the other hand, as far as decoy is concerned, she cares about the present (namely, the temporary enjoyment the predator will experience today). Of course, in her own life her mindset might be different (she might well be a good student working to better her own future). But since she realizes that a predator is living in the moment, she decides to bring him pleasure in his terms, which is why she does what she does. But, whatever she does, happens to be useful for Chris Hansen and police, even though her goals are entirely different.

So she knows the predator is going to jail but she doesn't want him to. Your reasons why she doesn't want him to make no sense.

Except that she already stated that she is the decoy. Is she somehow not aware of what the word "decoy" means? And if so, how did Chris Hansen and the police convince her to open the door to this stranger. And how does she know what will happen to the stranger without also understanding what the word "decoy" means?




You have given no plausible explanation for why she would think her interests are in favor of the predator. If she understands what rape is, why is she not happy to catch this guy? And if she doesn't understand, how did the police and Hansen convince her to go along with waiting for him to come to the door?

Your scenario hinges incomprehensibly on somebody either going along with a setup they don't understand at all, or on somebody sympathizing with a rapist enough to save him from entrapment yet also be the sort of person the police would choose to set up an entrapment.





Implausible claim. It's far more plausible that they think they won't be caught.




It wouldn't be good news for the rapist either. They aren't as uncaring about jail as you think. They actually try not to get caught because they don't want to go to jail. Yes, many criminals are more impulsive than the population at large, but that doesn't mean they somehow don't mind jail.



Why on earth would they get time to enjoy with the decoy. Is the decoy just going to let the rape progress? Reaklly??! !!?? People have far more of a self protective instinct than you give them credit for. If a rapist knows that his intended victim is aware of his intentions, he will also know that this person intends to fight back. Because nobody who knows they are about to be raped just smiles about it. Rapists know this. That's why they often bring weapons.



You know nothing about human nature. And a joke won't work without at least some knowledge of human nature.





Your entire scenario is built upon the decoy wanting the rapist to be happy. I'm not religious but....Jesus wept.
