hey!

do any of you own 1 or more american flags?
 what make is it??
 is it embroidered or printed??
 how big or small is it?
 you got any pictures of it?? (post them on here :D )

do you fly it outside of your house??
 on a flagpole attached to the house at an angle?
 on a flagpole erected from the ground?

i love american flags. i think they are so beautiful and pretty when they are cared for properly flying up on flagpoles or displayed around houses and things.
it makes me upset to see a ripped flag on a pole, or when i hear about people desecrating it

i love America too and i want to live here forever. i write this thread from Kentucky, but i live in England and when i get back there im goin to see how i can move here forever

im taking alot of american flags back to england with me... 33 of them!! these flags ive collected over the last month or so since ive been here - apart from one which i brought with me from england.
this is a list of my flags that i have in size (feet) , make, and the material

 15x10 champion flag embroidered (sewn stripes and embroidered stars) cotton bunting 50 stars
 10x6 annin and co embroidered nylon 50 stars
 9.5.5 annin and co casket size embroidered cotton bunting 50 stars
 6x4 annin and co embroidered nylon 50 stars
 5x3 annin and co embroidered cotton bunting 50 stars
 5x3 annin and co embroidered cotton bunting 15 stars 15 stripes
 5x3 annin and co embroidered cotton bunting 13 stars
 5x3 valley forge embroidered nylon with gold fringe 50 stars
(this flag is sleeved and came with a 8 foot brass flagpole with brass eagle and base)
 5x3 unknown make (says made in USA) printed polyester 50 stars
 3x2 annin and co embroidered nylon 50 stars
 3x2 annin and co embroidered cotton bunting 50 stars
 3x2 valley forge printed polyester 50 stars
 12" x 18" valley forge printed fringed polyester 50 stars
 2 of 12"x18" valley forge printed polyester printed 50 stars
these 2 are attached to poles and have wall mounts
 4 of 12"x18" polyester 50 stars flags on wooden sticks
 6 of 12"x8" cotton bunting printed 50 stars flags on wooden sticks
 5 of 4"x6" polyester printed 50 stars flags on plastic sticks have bases
 3 of 10"x6" polyester printed 50 stars flags on straws -which ill replace with wood when i get back to england)
= 33!

also in england i have a battery operated 12"x8" cotton flag with wires inside on a pole - it waves realistically! and plays to the star spangled banner
also 6 of 5x3 printed flags all made in taiwan that are faded now :( but i dont know if i have the heart to burn them even tho this is the proper way to dispose of old flags. theyll probably be folded up and put away somewhere. i know i wont be able to burn them.

so tell me all about your flags!

hey there drummer!! !! there are only 2 flags i can think of here. one is in a box in my bedroom it was cotton and stitched (i know, i need to dig it out!)

the other one, was a printed nylon flag purchased after 9/11 the pole and flag went to my dad's work. i think its standing next to the door there against wall.

i see you had alot of flags that you got while you are here in usa, will they all fit in baggage for trip back to uk???

about the flag poles, im pretty sure the airline for trip back to uk will allow you to take them back as checked baggage, the only reason for them to say no is if they see batteries or wires or anything unusual or the random explosives test comes up positive(i really dont think flags or flagpoles should rise any concern for that!!)

im really really glad you are having a nice vacation here in the states. im pretty sure also that you cannot wait to be able to move here. i think its very great that your mom said she would help you when you get back to get back here to live.

jess

I have a towel that has both a Canadian flag and an American flag and on the bottom, it says, "Between friends." I've bought it after the attack on the World Trade Centre in New York.

Amen. With a guy like Bush running the country, they need all the help they can get!

Although I understand your reluctance to part with your worn-out flags, any local American Legion hall will accept them for proper 'retirement', which they do in annual or semi-annual ceremonies. The Legion is a national organization of USA military veterans and takes things like that *VERY* seriously.

As for immigrating to the USA, I would go to the USA Citizenship and Immigration Service website http://www.uscis.gov for all of the nitty-gritty. It does take some time and there is a bit of a bureaucracy to weed through, but in all it should take no more than 10-15 years from moving here as a permanant resident alien to swearing the full citizenship oath and being eligible for all that comes with it (ie, voting and a USA passport).

I would also do a Google search for 'immigration usa' for more resources.

Good luck! :D

Mike

-------------------

BTW, I don't have very many 'big' flags (no place to fly them), but I do have a bunch of little ones and flag lapel pins, one of which I wear to work everyday. My family also has front-row season seats at Lambeau Field (NFL Green Bay Packers) and I take a full-sized flag to every game that I go to to stretch out during the pre-game national anthem.

Before heading back to the UK, I would also try to find a car-window flag or two (they are like the sports team or race car driver banners that you sometimes see flying on cars on USA roads), they can be found at places like Wal*Mart and are fun to drive around with.

Oh yea, don't forget to enjoy your holiday meal on thursday, where we recreate the famous meal where a bunch of early English settlers invited the local Indians to share in their good fortune and to give thanks to God for their bountiful harvest.

:-)

And don't try to get up at 0300 on friday morning to go shopping, it isn't worth it. (hehehehe)

I have three American flags. One big one which is up on my wall, one smaller one which hangs off my shelf along with my other American and police things that I have collected and a smaller flag which is sewn onto my college bag.

ok well i shall now eat my own words! i did burn those flags. after alot of thinking about it i decided to best way to respect those flags was to burn them.
i took them putside and hung another american flag up with string to anearby tree then i set some papers on fire sang a couple of patriotic songs then put the flags in the flames one at a time stripes 1st. it felt very strange to do it!!

the rest of my flag collection is now in my bedrrom i have some flags hung on the walls, others folded into triangles flagpoles hanging off the walls and one from the grounnd to the ceiling, bows an buntings are around a few of my teddies hold american flags now too lol........ my room is awesome!

oh and i met a guy in Georigia who has he same obsession about the flag as me and that is SO COOL! i found him in a military chat room on yahoo, i opened his cam and he was kissin his flag!

I had quite a few when I was younger. I had 2 8x10's and a 3x5 before school ended in 5th grade, but that one broke.

I'm not sure that would be altogether wise. I bet if you walked round certain parts of Ireland wearing that you'd get lynched. :D
