Say there was a child killer who was trapped in a room. You are the only person around, nobody else knows he is there. You can do anything you want without anybody ever knowing. What would you do? ***DO NOT POST ANYTHING GRAPHIC PLEASE***

Definitely call the police. It should be easy for the police to arrest a trapped killer.

I'd be very disturbed and walk away.

Swap 'disturbed' with anxious and that's my choice. My first thought would be to get to safety myself. A murderer is a dangerous person and although 35 I am the size of a 10 year old, so I might even be mistaken for his target group and I'm definitely not up for a fight, so definitely get away safely first of all.

If I were to call the cops afterwards (I mightn't, I hate getting involved in things) I'd definitely do it anonymously from a payphone and hang up quickly and get away to avoid questioning. Cops have such weird views, and my innate anxiety, different body language and lack of eye contact would trigger their mental lie detector. Nuh-uh. not getting involved with anything directly if I can avoid it.

It's also nearly guaranteed that I wouldn't identify the person as a child murderer, since I find myself unable to make myself watch the news and get to know whatever it is that is considered 'necessary knowledge' in my environment.

Shoot him. Hey, one less person that the state has to house, clothe, and feed.

I'd call the cops.

Well, there is that prison scene in "American History X" (not too graphic I hope) but in the "reality" of the scenario the killer is trapped in the room, and by extension, I as poster am also therefore trapped in the room, for if it were possible for me to leave the killer would be able to leave at will unless they were restrained, in which case I would probably do my best to smell my most foul, settle in, set up a webcam and occasionally offer them food

If I had unlimited power and freedom to do anything without consequence....

I have two conflicting sides. One wants to somehow make him feel the horrible pain and suffering he's caused others, but it's unlikely someone like that would ever "get the point" of that, plus I wouldn't be able to look at myself in the mirror again... plagued by remorse and nightmares.

The side more likely to win is the one that'd make sure the police get the guy and justice is served properly... I might even get a little bit of warm-fuzzies for doing the right thing. I like the warm fuzzies.

Why the last part? That makes answers boring.

I'm not quite sure, I wouldn't call the cops because in case nobody has figured it out the legal system doesn't work. Most likely I'd just give one hell of an interrogation right up until the guy started crying, then I'd probably get all guilty about it and quit threatening to drown him in a rubbermaid container, or cut him to pieces with a screwdriver.

If someone had willfully tortured and/or killed a child, I think that they deserve the same type of treatment. I would wish that I had the ability to do the same thing to them because they deserved it. But I am not violent, so I don't think that I could. I would probably call the police instead.

Assuming I knew the person was a child killer, I would call the police. The legal system is too often not a justice system, however I could not mete out any violent action myself. I suppose that answer might be different if I were the parent. However, given that I was just somebody who knew that there was great opportunity for the police to make an arrest, I would assist to that end.

If this individual was proven to have killed children deliberately, possibly an escaped convict,
then calling the authorities should guarantee immediate incarceration, plus additional time added to the original sentence.

However, if I was the only one who knew or suspected this person, all that would result of the authorities' being notified would be a trial. Maybe.

In America, certain people were not arrested or even questioned, due to the witnesses being deemed untrustworthy.
Specifically, John Wayne Gacy.

Years before the bodies were found under his house, a local male prostitute reported him to the police for abduction, assault, attempted murder.

The police disregarded him.
He was, after all, gay, and a druggie, and a prostitute, so at least thirty-three lives were lost.

If Gacy were locked in a room, I think I would let him go hungry until he told where more bodies were, so I could tell the locations to the police when I called.

Same with Dean Corll.

Same with Ted Bundy.

Same with Myra Hindley.

Same with Dennis Nilsen.

Same with Rosemary West.

I think it depends on the actual details. How do we know he is a child killer? Has he been convicted of it? If so why isn't he in prison? If he's just accused of it, he deserves a fair trial first before any punishment.
