I'm being driven nuts by pencil sharpeners! I can't find a good one for my kid to use! Either they ravage the pencil, sharpen it only on one side so when you write with it, the lead breaks off, or it finally sharpens it right when there is only two inches of the brand-new pencil left. I tried most of the manual ones and even one that runs on batteries which SUCKS! I even tried the one that suctions down on surfaces which works well if you can keep the blasted thing suctioned down without having it go flying across the room and up against your flippin' window! Anybody come across a decent pencil sharpener?

I find the small plastic ones work the best, if you don't have the old school ones?

How about a manual sharpener? That way, your kid can easily carry it around.

They sell some drawing pencil sharpeners at Fred Meyer that are sold with packs of drawing pencils. I think a mechanical pencil would be a worthy investment as well.

I have an electric one that works fast and very well. Its made by a company called Royal, and the Model is Power Point. I don't remember how much it cost, but we have had it maybe 5 years.

Hire a professional pencil sharpener. I'm not joking, it's a real job.
Or, I could just do this

and send them to you. :P

Reading this thread, I'm nostalgic for the pencil sharpeners we used in elementary school. They were attached to the wall with numerous holes for various sized pencils. You would turn the handle I believe clockwise. Usually it would sharpen nicely. Some kids had their own tiny sharpeners they kept in their desk.

What really sucks is when your pencil was too big for any of the holes and there isn't a sharpener on Earth that will get the job done.

I have to calculate that. I never thought of figuring how much it would cost in theory.

When not at home I use a Staedtler sharpener, it works well. At home I use a Helix desk mounted pencil sharpener, it also works well.

Cheap electric sharpeners do not have good cutting mechanisms and are useless.

Another thing to consider is the quality of pencils you use. I find a Staedler pencil lasts a lot longer than a cheap equivalent as the lead does not seem to break as often.
