I was looking up dolphins, elephants and primates and I noticed that all three groups
A} Pass the mirror recognition test (proving self-awareness)
B} Exhibit homosexual behavior from time to time and/or engage in sex for pleasure

Is there a correlation between the two and if so, why?

That's an interesting question, and I don't think there is an answer.

All species commit homosexual acts, as far as I can tell. It's particularly common among giraffes and geese (I think? I remember it was some bird), I believe.

Do black swans recognize themselves in the mirror?

Not all dogs are over-sexual.
