I was just talking to a dr on the phone and we got to talking about the impending weather. Possible snowstorm of up to 18 inches. I said I should probably go out to the store and get a few things just in case. He said yeah he would want to make sure he had coffee and then would hole up all weekend at home. So I got to thinking what besides the obvious (heat, running water & toilet paper) would you want to make sure you had enough of if you got snowed in? For me I panic if I don't have meat in the freezer, chocolate, something salty like crackers, milk or cheese. Coffee isn't on my list since I seldom drink the stuff.

What's on your list? Course if you live in someplace like Austrailia this probably seems like a silly topic at the moment.

I'd love to see some snow but I live on the coast and we rarely get any. Even a couple of inches of snow and everyone gets excited about it  I can't imagine what a real snowstorm of 18 or more inches would be like at all but I guess if I was going to be snowed in I'd be most concerned about keeping warm. If I had heat and water I'd be happy with whatever food I could find in the store cupboard, so long as I had plenty of tea. I couldn't be without tea. And catfood. Not for me, for my kitty. :)

I'd like to see snow here in the UK, but we are getting the full effect of "freak weathers".

I wish it would snow, though appparently we are now more likely to get snow in april than in December, that would be wierd.

When i was little we got snowed in, there was like six feet, i tried going out the door and got stuck, i had to be hauled back in.

If i were snowed in i would definitely make sure there were enough candles, torches, batteries and any other forms of illumination; that way, if there is a power cut i'd still be able to read.

I could not live without chocolate. And cat food in plenty. And tea. Bread.

I always have canned food in the cupboard. Chocolate biscuits. Oh and noodle soups. You must have food that can be eaten cold if the electricity goes. It dosen't happen a lot in Denmark, but in Sweden it does.

Anyway we haven't seen snow since last winter it's just rain and wind here. So I envy you. I miss the smell of frosty weather and the sound of snow.

So far we have about 6-7 inches, maybe 8. It's difficult to say because wind has been fierce and blowing the snow everywhere. I tried to shovel the porch steps and got pelted in the face by snowing blowing off the roof and couldn't see where I was walking. This morning there was a snow drift up against the front door. I am ready for it to melt because I have to work this weekend and they don't accept snow as an excuse not to show up for work. Even when we got 48 inches of snow over 3 day period last winter the company insisted we could not close down.

Yes I did get some extra food for the kitty. I have been eating soups and stew and enjoying staying huddled up indoors. Only thing is the hot water went out again. I did venture out this morning just a couple miles to visit someone. The roads had not been plowed so it was a little scary driving. The forecast is saying tomorrow night the low temp will be minus 4 degrees Farenheit. Not sure what that is in Celsius other than REALLY COLD. I hate to think what the wind chill will be.

At my location in Texas we are lucky to get one day of snow a year.

I routinely go without supplies. I ran out of fish oil a week ago and I have been in
no hurry to get more. So I could go weeks without anything.

what d'you mean "if"? We haven't left the house save for last night since the snow started up again earlier this week. Spent most of yesterday afternoon shovelling the driveway so we could attend a parent-teacher conference in -6C weather.

Diseased I saw on weather channel where parts of Canada had some extremely cold temps today. Just curious in BC how much snow does it take for schools or the city to shut down? When I lived in TN it took only 2 inches of snow to close the schools. I kid you not! But here in northern AZ it takes over a foot of snow to close the schools. Someone told me in 1995 they closed the whole city and instituted a curfew when they got 3 feet of snow. I'm not sure why they did that because there has been 3+ feet of snow twice since I moved here and the city didn't close and neither did my employer. Just curious what it is like there where you must be used to dealing with a lot of cold weather.

I'd come over to my parents' house to shovel the driveway, but than I'd end up using the snow on the driveway to build a Snowman, instead. :D

Get the kids and their mothers in your old neighbourhood together, break up into two even teams, go to a park, and stage a snowball fight. :)

I dislike the snow, but I dislike the rain even more. At least I can walk outside in the snow and not get soaking wet. It snowed here the other day and there is still snow on the ground, though it was much too cold to snow yesterday.

As long as the electricity is on, plenty of water, warm clothing and blankets, canned food (usually soup), granola bars, peanut butter, something to do and heat are nice things to have.
