Does anyone remember Wilt from Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends?
I LOVED Wilt....but then, he's such an easy character to love/form an attachment to. He's very sweet, he always tries to make his friends as comfortable as possible, and he's always helpful. He even apologizes a lot - that's something I do, too. I sometimes wonder if the creators of the show were creeping on me and recording my quirks and idiosyncrasies when they were developing Wilt's character, cuz he and I are pretty much exactly the same...except for me being tall and red and an expert basketball player, of course.
Not only that, but there's something really soothing about him. He rarely, if ever, gets angry, and whenever he sees someone crying or unhappy, he never says anything like, "Oh, get over yourself," he comes up to them, says something like, "I'm sorry, are you okay, friend?" And pats them on the head or soothes them in other ways. He would pat Eduardo and Mac, the little boy, on the head a lot during the show in order to comfort or show affection. I loved that.
I also pretended that Wilt was my imaginary friend, and that he lived with me. I think that on some level, I even "became" Wilt, since he and I had such similar personalities and quirks. There were times when it was even a bit painful for me to watch certain Wilt-centric episodes of Fosters bcuz I could relate to getting taken advantage of for my good nature and naivete.
When the show first came out, I was subscribing to a kid's magazine that was like National Geographic for kids, and one particular issue had these inserts in order to promote Foster's. There was one illustration of Wilt on one of the inserts that I really liked, and I would leave it out where I could look at it, and sometimes I even folded it up and carried it in my pocket or purse.
Heck, I even read something somewhere once about how when the first pilot episodes of Barney first came out in the late 1980s, little kids were actually taking their videocassette packages with Barney illustrations on the front to bed with them and cuddling up to them, prompting parents to demand that a Barney plushie be made. I read that and thought that was probably what I would have ended up doing with my magazine inserts with Wilt on them if I hadn't managed to find a Wilt plushie on Ebay a few years ago. I was so emotional over finding him that I almost cried - and I've had him for three years since. He's made in sort of the same style as the UglyDolls, and he's sort of on the small-ish side (big enough to rest comfortably in one's arms) and I always take him with me on trips and breaks from school and the like.
Anyway, yeah, I just really like Wilt...he's one of my favorite cartoon characters next to Mater, Susie the Little Blue Coupe, Randall Boggs, Fluttershy, Wreck-It Ralph and Vanellope.
Anyone else like Wilt?
