No actually i love the idea of reading books i use to as a child but now i just find it really boring or hard to pay attention.

Id rather read a part of a magazine article that interests me but usually i dont read the whole thing and skip to the important parts. such as the price etc.

Anyone else here find it difficult to keep attention while reading books?

Not really, for me. It depends on what the book is, however.

Also depends on the book for me, i prefer fantasy and horror over real solid literature :o But its alright because everyone has their own interests :) And yes i did have a lot of problems with keeping my attention with books or anything else really, but not anymore, yay for my meds xD

I don't enjoy fiction, but I can get in to factual books that have something to teach me, especially if it's technical. My bookcase is full of service manuals and political books as that is primarily what I read. I used to read fiction when I was younger but have lost the desire to do so as an adult if it is not a significant book that is used as a cultural touchstone. For example, the last book I read was Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World". I also read about half of "1984" as well before I got bored with it. I read them primarily because I see them referenced in a lot of the articles I read and I wanted to be able to enter into the conversation in a way that would not make me appear ignorant.

I don't have the attention span for reading books unless the entirety of their content interests me.

It has to be about something that I'm interested in, than I'd have no problem reading the book.

I used to love reading when I was a child, but nowadays I have trouble finishing books. I also have trouble finishing movies and television shows. My attention span is short. :?

I would spend hours reading when I was younger. I was often confined to my room, so I could either do that, or play with Barbies.

I love reading now as well, I just don't do it as often as I used to.

I can't really enjoy reading either. It's not that I hate it it's just I can't really concentrate on reading. If it's not making noises or showing me moving imagery I tend not to pay attention to it.

Before I learned to knit, I did almost nothing but read. Unfortunately, I can't read and knit at the same time.

I have the same problem as you, Australia (and Shrok and IdahoRose) with regard to the attention span. Especially recently I have trouble 'getting myself' to read, and usually when I start a book, I do not finish it.
I was never a huge reader, though I tried to make reading fiction a habit some years back. There are times when I'll suddenly start to read a bit more books on a subject that interests me, but that also dies down as quick as it came, and sometimes only lasts 2 weeks to a month.

The funny thing is, when I have a (work) schedule that involves long trips in public transportation and boring lunch breaks, I tend to bring a book with me to work, and find myself perfectly able to totally immerse myself in the book. It's as if the mundane nature of my job drives me to do something a bit more mentally engaging, while when I'm at home in my 'safe place' so to speak, I'll just spend hours doing inconsequential things because I'm feeling comofrtable. But when I'm at work or on the bus, I want to distract myself from the 'alien' environment by burying myself in a book.

I am currently reading a Dutch translation of Hindu and Buddhist myths and legends, which includes the Mahabharata and the Ramayana. It interests me because my father is half Hindustani, even though I normally gravitate more to my mothers Indonesian side.

I write them.

I should probably read some more as well; maybe it'll help me out in that aspect XD.
