I have Aspergers and I read a lot, but I have never found one thing that I am completely consumed by. I actually want to find something to be consumed by. I want to have a hobby like every one else. What are some good ideas. Just post some of your favorites. In the past I had a interest in realistic race car games where you had to use different setups to make your car go faster. However, I have not found anything like this lately. So maybe their is something you like doing that you could share. I guess I am looking for something that has purpose and can lead to something of value. Thanks.

I think danmac's suggestions sound good if you are even slightly interested in any of them.

How about a foreign language?

I feel the same as the OP does. I want to find something that I can be very passionately interested in.

Auditing classes, video games, carpentry, going for walks, scriptural study, dancing, watching TV, sports, history...

You name it. Just understand that "everyone else" are not consumed by a single hobby. That's a trait some people with Asperger's exhibit. I'm generally interested in at least five different hobbies at once, because that prevents me from being completely consumed. I don't exhibit a pure special interest anymore as a result, and that's a good thing. By not allowing myself to be consumed, I can function as an adult. I can work, I can attend school. Hard to do when you're straight obsessed with playing video games every minute of every day, as I was as a boy.

But anything can be a hobby. You say you read a lot. There's a hobby. I've heard of people making building motorcycles a hobby, or paleontology. It's up to you. Keep looking.

Auditing classes are great for learning, and trying to see how much you can take in a fast paced school environment.

How about animation? As in, watching animated shows/movies and aspiring to do artwork in a similar style. That's something I've always been into.

What about being a movie fanatic? You could pick a particular director, actor, company, or specific type of movie (such as slashers or musicals ) and become an expert on their works.

Urban gardening. Collecting and cataloguing mushrooms (not the "funny" ones).
