It really does take some time. It help if there is a reasonable amount of traffic, as then its follow the leader.
Turns are the worst, as you tend to go to the wrong side of the road. Its a good way to really frighten yourself.
It helps if there is someone beside you, to remind you to stay on the correct side of the road.
