Does anyone else here really dislike popular science books? I hate how they're dumbed down and how they minimise on formulae etc. I only ever read textbooks.
I also dislike it when someone reads a popular science book and then claims to be a self-taught expert in the field, really irritating.
I don't read many pop-science books for mostly the same reasons. I've read some which I have found quite interesting but that's usually more down to the writing style of the author; the lack of nitty-gritty detail is still a problem for me. I miss having free access to hundreds of journals that came with studying science at university as you do atm. I would often sit down to do some research to write an essay and then spend the entire night reading other interesting things I found.
