Need help for short trip to Seattle, WA

I am sure that you are familiar with this situation. Visiting a city that you have never seen. Know basically nothing about it. And you need to plan a trip there for a very short length of time. The lovely slightly younger man that I live with and I will be in Seattle in the latter part of August for about 2 1/2 days.

The transit system looks amazing! They have the whole city covered which is quite different than here in overly hot Kissimmee, FL.

Hope I don't bore anyone with this detail. To plan it the first thing I am doing is deciding the places of interest (POI) to visit, then look into finding a hotel in an area nearby the POI, after that find restaurants for 2 very picky eaters.

Can anyone offer suggestions on an area that is interesting, or good hotel, or a better way to plan a trip. Please!

July and August are the only months that it's likely to be warm and dry, but check your favorite weather website for rain before you go.

We've stayed at this place a couple of times. It's cosy, not too expensive, and just over the road from to the Seattle Center, so about a ten minute bus ride into town.

I've been to Seattle four times now, and the buses do indeed strike me as pretty good. If you're going to walk around, bear in mind Seattle has some pretty steep hills!

As for stuff to see, Pike Place Market is the one thing you must visit. There's a bunch of good galleries - the Seattle Art Museum is downtown , but if you like smaller galleries, and especially local Native American art, there are loads around the Pioneer Square area. The Seattle Center, close to the hotel I mentioned above, has the Space Needle (great view but don't bother with the restaurant, it's over-priced and you can get way better food elsewhere), the Experience Music Project (a museum of rock music) and Science Fiction Museum, and Chihuly Garden and Glass, a new exhibit showing the work of the celebrated local glass artist Dale Chihuly (I haven't seen that one yet, but from what I know of his work, it's probably pretty stunning).

Grab yourself copies of The Stranger and The Weekly as soon as you get into town - they're free from any street corner box and they have guides to what's on that week as far as art, music gigs etc.

Hard to say re food unless I know exactly what kind of picky you are...
