"90s kids"
The "90s kid" stuff is really big on the Internet right now. I guess it's the whole 20 year cycle thing, now that 20 years ago is well within the 1990s the decade is "game" for nostalgia I suppose since it's different enough from yesterday to be seen as an "era" and not part of the greater contemporary present.
Personally I think it can get a bit silly. I actually thought the 90s kind of sucked while they still going on though if I remembered the earlier part better I might be more fond of them. I've always seen the 90s as being when pop culture got boring and over-commercialized and when Hollywood and artists ran out of ideas.
And I'm not some grumpy aging Boomer or Xer who still has an ancient grudge against Nirvana and Ice-T. I was actually born at the beginning of 1990 which places me as old enough to remember the 90s fairly well but still in my single digits during the entire decade. I have grown a bit more fond of the decade over time, I really like the eurodance/house music of that time. Night At The Roxbury is a great movie.
Anyways my point is that the 90s kid stuff is kind of annoying. For one thing it's dominated by people who were babies during the late 90s and can't possibly remember anything meaningful from that time. We're talking people who are still kids in this decade!
People born in the 80s for the most part don't claim to have any real connection to that decade so I don't know why these 16 year olds born in 1997 are of the delusion that they grew up in the 90s. Even if they did, imo it's not some great privilege or anything.
Aside from the early years of the decade most of the 90s was very similar to the 2000s. Aside from technology being more advanced I don't consider there to be much of a difference at all between 1995 and 2005. The music was the same (rap, teen pop and alternative), the fashion was pretty much the same (baggy cargo pants, buzz cuts, lots of black clothes and blue jeans) and the slang people used and the general attitude people had about things was pretty much the same.
I don't see a massive difference between being 13 in 1995 and being 13 in 2005 aside from earlier access to mobile phones. Same generation IMO. I mean who cares if you remember the 90s? It wasn't that different from today, it wasn't like the 70s or 80s or something.
On the flip side you do have some "90s kids" born in the 80s who basically think that if you were born after 31/12/1989 you must be a 2000s kid and a Justin Bieber lover, which is equally absurd. I would say anyone born from the late 70s to the early 90s could claim to have been a kid in the 90s.
I think most of us born in the late 80s or early 90s feel that way because the pop culture in the 90s was alot better than that of today..
I mean, if I grew up in today's pop culture instead of that of the 90s, I'd be miserable, cartoons suck, music sucks, clothes suck, it's a bit ridiculous all around.

I disagree about clothes. 90s clothes were pretty bland and horrible for the most part. But at least not every other person was a heavily tattooed pierced freak in the 90s. (or maybe I just need to leave Portland for a while)

Well, I don't honestly remember what I wore or what people wore in the 90s. Just, the pop culture trends/clothing for 13-18 year olds in modern society is "swag" and "swag" is about as ridiculous as it gets..

I hope It's not butting in if I post on this thread, as I'm not a 90s kid; just posting on the subject of "90s kids"...
I've seen this cycle go all the way around now, and it's exactly the same thing but new details. I'm a 70s kid (80s teenager) born in '67. There are a lot of things on Facebook and other places, about 80s trivia, and a lot of it isn't exactly right. For technology, we didn't have cellphones (although I had one in 1985 because I was a tech nerd) . Basically the only thing that has REALLY changed from my teen years to now, is the way we get music. For us, it was 99% that it got popular on the radio, then you'd buy it at the record store if you wanted, and we'd share it by copying LP records or CDs onto cassettes. So in other words, we did the same stuff... Just in a different way. Clothes that I wore in middle school, were popular again about 3 or 4 years ago for middle school kids. I'm talking about skinny jeans for guys, skate/surf brand T shirts, Vans shoes, etc. That was about 25 years cycle to cycle. Kids' first cars also went back to what they were in the early 80s... Most kids in the early 80s wanted a monster 4x4 truck, then those went unpopular by the early 90s, and they all wanted lowered Chevy trucks or Civics, etc. Then about 5 years ago, the rock crawler (prerunner-style) trucks came in popular... Just a newer version of the old monster trucks. Music is the only thing that keeps progressing in a straight line, and doesn't really go back to an old style for kids... It does come back in the form of a few bands will start playing 80s stuff, and get popular with people my age, but it doesn't ever go mainstream with the under-25 group.
I know I'm OLD, as compared to a 90s kid, but I'm not stuck in the 80s at all, and I do get to like new stuff.

Maybe because we missed it? I was born in 1993 and I remember going to a daycare where they had a SNES and a N64. I like Super Mario World on the SNES better than Mario Kart or Banjo-Kazooie so I wanted my first console to be a SNES instead of a Nintendo 64. I didn't know the N64 was the new one and I didn't care. Dad got me a N64 and I never had a SNES even though I remember what it was. I also remember seeing a Sega console in Costco set up so you could "try it before you buy it". Sega tanked but I was interested in it at the time. I don't think I would still be interested in it now but there's nostalgia for things that I saw but never got to explore. This is still the late 90s. That's all I know of. I'm not really a 90s fanatic anyway. I just want to try some things I never did when they were modern. There are some things from the early 2000s that I never tried and would like to experiment with as well.

Born in 89 here. I see a difference in what's on tv, the animation has gotten worse/lazy/grotesque in kids cartoons. Normally i wouldn't care, but i'm very protective of my little brother (born in 01) and i'd rather him watch the animaniacs sing about the countries in the world than watch the "regular show" where a bird and a raccoon are basically on a drug trip. Maybe I'm not finding good programming?
As far as music was concerned, there's akways going to be several different styles of music. I like a lot of what's coming out now. (Skimming over my crush on Bruno Mars....) However I disliked a lot of the nineties radio tunes. Oftentimes I'd ask my dad to put in the tape of Journey.
Video games- oh my we still have the SNES, NES, N64 and two ataris at my parentals' house.
Even though the little bro will play the older games, he prefers the newer ones because they're easier and prettier. Kid got very mad at the early zelda games. Ha.
Fashion- well hello. Fashion has always and will always go in circles. I'm even seeing people starting to wear jeans at the natural waistline again. Oh, man. How crazy. Fashion is just people forgetting what clothes looked like and someone recycling an old idea, calling it new, and watching people eat it up.
Aaaand other one in the morning tired thoughts. I forgot. Oh well. I do hate those "90's kids are DA BEST!" posts too

I was born in 1995 but I had a full 90s kid experience. My first computer was a Packard-Bell's Navigator with no Internet (imagine!) and I enjoyed lots of the things that teens enjoyed back then (freestyle, 90s Tv, etc) because my Asperger's made me intellectually precocious.

Nobody says swag is a serious way, swag is only really ever used in a satircal way
