There was a post here a couple years ago by someone who was afraid of buttons.

Not on appliances or elevators (though that would be odd too), but the things that fasten clothing on you.

Plastic buttons. Ivory buttons.

They were grossed out and afraid of them.

And a large number of people responded by admitting to the same phobia- the thread got rather long.

I asked one of them "which would be worse- holding a big live spider in your hand, or holding a button from Mom's sewing kit in your hand?"

The person said it was a close call- but admitted that the spider would slightly worse.

To each his own.

Im scared to death of viscious gangs of "Keep Left" signs myself!

Chaetophobia.... Hmmm.... That may explain my aversion to the mustache in a box in the restroom at work. I didn't want to go near that thing.

The list doesnt even mention the (apparently) pervasive fear of, and revulsion to .....buttons!

WTF?

But check out the word for "fear of the number 666".

Im phobic about having to say that word.

I have trypophobia which is apparently one of the strangest phobias according to that article. Although I'm not really scared of clustered holes, I just have an extreme physical reaction.

Interesting list; thank you for sharing. :)

I appear to have sub-clinical entomophobia; I have been known to scream, flail my arms, and run away from even small bugs (though insects with stinging capacities, roaches, and mosquitoes provoke the most fear), but I do not have literal panic attack, can tolerate being in a room with said creatures when need be, and do not have such a reaction every time that I encounter a bug. I theorize that my case may be due to mild-but-painful allergic reactions that I had to bees, ants, and mosquitoes as a child (though I do not appear to be as allergic as an adult).

My general anxiety whilst driving and mild-but-actual panic attacks that I have had on the interstate is suggestive of dystychiphobia (fear of automobile accidents), though this anxiety is not severe enough to prevent me from driving ( I do, however, have a nice scar from self-inflicted scratching due to driving anxiety).

I hope that all of you find some relief from your phobias.

The strangest phobia I've seen expressed is the fear of success, or "Epitychiaphobia".

People will make up all kinds of excuses as to why they won't (or imagine that they can't) succeed, even when success is extremely easy (i.e., just show up). No, I don't think this is a fear of failure, because I fear failure, but I go ahead and try anyway.

I've seen this in relation to relationships, employment, and athleticism.
