Were there any ironic situations in your life? You know, like that you didn't expect something to happen at all and it turned out this very thing happened to you out of a sudden or something like that.

I will never forget the preparations for my matura exam (it is an exam with which high school ends here): I was taking Polish literature, English language and history exams. While preparing for the last one, I decided on not learning about the partitions of Poland too much http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Partitions_of_Poland for I found this section very boring and, after all, it would be a really very strange coincidence if, out of all the sections of the history of our country, I happened to chose this very one. That was at least what I thought. Because, imagine, when I came to the exam (having a form of drawing of lots with three subjects you had to speak on), it turned out my topics I were to present were: something on the baptism of Poland http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baptism_of_Poland, the consequences of the discovery of America and... yes, you already guessed what the last topic was :x

Due to this last topic I wasn't prepared for, I got a lower mark - I got only 4 instead of 5.

That I think is more ironic than your first example. :)

Your experience with the exam just sounds like what we in England call Sod's Law (or Murphy's Law). [Fail to revise a single particular subject, and it is bound to turn up in the exam, because "if something can go wrong, it will".]

I can't think of anything off the top of my head, but my sister dated our 2nd cousin. They were not aware until a family reunion , and it was really awkward when they found out.

Here's one example. I bought a computer around the end 2002 because I didn't like sharing one with my mom & her's was having lots of problems. Her's had Windows ME & mine came with XP & I was planning to install my XP disk on her's due to problems with ME 1ce I got my computer set up. Her computer got infected with the Klez virus rite after I got my XP comp in before I could transfer anything over to it. I installed XP & lost everything.
I might post some more stories if I think of em.

I'm anaemic most of the time ...

(iron-ic? :) )

...and have a much-needed blood type for donation and always want to donate, so that's ironic too.

My friend died a day before Thanksgiving.

Irony is hilarious.

Is this ironic?

My last baby was due March 29th 2010, I lost that one and then my new one was due December 29th 2010. I also know two girls, one of them had Down's syndrome and was my friend, she was born October 29th and her younger sister was born December 29th. I have an online friend who was born on March 29th and her name is zeldapsychology. This is a weird pattern here. All 29s.

Also, my two nephews were born in December and then my son. So now three birthdays in one month for my husband's side of the family. Another birthday to add when they do two birthdays together, now there will be three together every time December comes. They all hold it on the same day when they celebrate their birthdays when they do a party for them. Oh yeah my son was born on the 22nd and my nephew's is on the 23rd.

One time my mom was loaned a book and there was a character in it and the character happened to have the same last name as ours and our name isn't even popular. It felt very funny and awkward. We both wondered how did the author come up with the name and my mom suggested he may have saw the name up in Seattle since there is a road named after someone in our family and he may have used that name for his book. Just a coincidence.

No. That isn't irony, but rather morbid and coincidental.

'Irony', like 'awkward', is one of the most incorrectly-used words in the English language.

To enlighten: http://hotword.dictionary.com/ironic/

After reading the link, I don't get how other situations in this thread are ironic.

My last name is Anspaugh.

Most people pronounce it "Aspergers".

I really don't know how you get that out of Anspaugh (Antz-paw), but I find it funny every time somebody says it completely wrong.
