No, this is not a thread asking for WPers from LA. It's a thread about the city in general.
----
Oh, Los Angeles, California, how do I love thee (for all of its problems)? Let me count the ways:
1) The weather is just AMAZING.
2) You are literally in the middle of everything (Beaches, mountains, desert, forests, those things).
3) So many things to do if you love sports (the Dodgers, Kings, hiking, all that).
4) Lots of movies, everywhere.
5) Hey, traffic is not just an LA problem; my home of Seattle has the same issues.
6) It may be a tad dirty, but name one big city that isn't. :D

YMMV on these, but these are my reasons.

Don't forget the musea, the winery, Union Station, Farmers' Market, Mulholland, being the epicenter of recording and film. .The place is comparable to Eden on so many levels but the sales tax is lower east of the San Gabriel river

Visited it. We went to the LaBrea tar pits. On the way back to our hotel, the Missus saw a Taco Bell and said, 'oh let's check that out.' The people in it all looked quite threatening and i was sure some sort of gang war would erupt before we had finished our 'tacos'.

Oh yes, and I had one of the most exciting accidental discoveries ! ! I got lost trying to find the tar pit museum and turned down a street to see THE FRONT GATE OF PARAMOUNT STUDIOS ! !! Looked like they had never changed a thing since the 1930's. It was lovely ! !

If you can believe it there's an even rougher crowd at Del Taco, where the tacos are 49 cents and the menu doesn't focus on too many concoctions. They also sell burgers and fries. The only Del Taco in L.A. proper is off Alameda by Union Station and a Greyhound stop, but elsewhere throughout SoCal they are more abundant. In the city of Irvine (in OC) there is an intersection with 2 Del Tacos right across the street from each other!

I've done the tourist goon TV show taping twice. Long lines in the heat, extremely limited bathroom access, up to 4 hours sitting still, the possibility of cameras capturing your face, forced applause and laughter, what's the matter with him? Look at his face, he's doing it again. I swear

I never lived there, but visiting always feels good to me, even with the crowds, which I usually hate.

Also, I miss living in a city. Where I am now is so far from anything, restaurants, libraries (of any size at all), and we have to drive 20 miles just to find any decent shopping. Not to mention there is NO public transportation to speak of. I always thought I would like living in a rural area, but maybe we're not far enough out for it to be pleasant enough to make up for not having the conveniences of the city.

I only visited it once and did not like it one bit. Too much traffic, too much smog and too many people-many of whom are environmentalists. Not to mention the taxes are too high, real estate is too expensive and they have the most evil, draconian smog inspections in the history of mankind. Plus, they are nowhere near liberal enough on gun ownership. The only good side is the dry weather that seems to preserve old cars for a long time, making them ripe for export to other, nicer parts of the country.

I am not saying that where I live (Central Florida) is all that great either. It's too hot and there is no real industry outside of healthcare, agriculture and tourism. Plus, the landscape is boring and too many of the people are uneducated. However, the lax gun laws and total lack of any form of automotive inspections keep me here. I feel much safer knowing that almost anywhere I go someone is likely carrying a concealed handgun.

They are some of the laziest environmentalists on the planet; If they were putting their money where their mouths are that traffic would be reduced by at least a third. The rest of the traffic and smog problem would see a dent if the illegal aliens were held to the same standard as legal citizens; from the driving patterns I observe people driving illegally are on a similar plane as old vision impaired drivers, and those cars are all too often running dirty engines that need to be taken off the road. You know there's a problem when a modern fuel-injected, computer controlled 4-stroke engine channeling exhaust into a catalytic converter is emitting 3 times the smoke as a 30 year old 2-cycle engine burning out the remains of previous lower quality oils, along with built up gum and varnish.

The policy makers do most of their thinking with their heads in a warm, dark place. The smog laws are one reason among many that I choose 2-wheeled transportation. My goal has been to find a completely street legal 2-stroke motorcycle capable of handling freeways, there are a very few that slipped through the cracks, I may be a little closer to reaching that goal. It's little things like this that make me glad not to be a blind sheep.

The auto export business is huge here; I live a mile away from a terminal where the lot is overflowing with anything on wheels destined for Sweden where the cars get through about 3 winters before the floor pans rust out. I had a neighbor who borrowed a trailer from his friend to get a $200 car from Craigslist. While the car sat on the trailer the friend bought the car for $1000. He sold it to someone at the terminal for $5000, and by the time it reached Sweden it fetched $20,000, and it was in a completely unrestored state!
Along with this their buddies put in on group buys from the Summit Racing and Jeg's catalogs, then they stuff as much into each car as they can before it goes on the container

Moving on from all this, I did see a Dodgers game during Anime Expo; the stadium, even though it is 50 years old, still looks great in some aspects; but in the inside, the age kinda shows.

Unfortunately, the game I went to, the Dodgers lost to the Mets 3-2.

I'd love to go to either UCLA or Caltech! Especially Caltech and that's my dream school so I'm working my ass off for it right now. I love Los Angeles. I love love love love Los Angeles. I've been there twice and I want to stay for a longer period of time.

I've been to LA quite a few times. There are some cool things about it, but for me, the negatives outweigh the positives.

The home prices, for example. A 1,500 square foot house in LA costs a million dollars, while a house twice it's size sold in Oregon goes for about $300,000-$500,000.

My dream is to see an LA Kings game; but the lockout will not make that happen for quite some time.....
