We all know that Al Gore and Tipper Gore are breaking up. I didn't care at first, but most of my friends do. They are devastated that a marriage of 40 years can end just like that.

My boss, a newlywed and a politically active woman, were talking how crushing she is. Then she mentioned her friend with an austistic son said Gore may be on the spectrum. He is quite monotone, and sometimes misses social cues. It'd have to be very mild autism, but he's certainly not totally NT.

I've heard people name off famnous people whom supposedly had AS, like Mozart or Albert Einstein. Whether they did or not is irrelevant to me, because their accomplishments speak loudest. Yet if Al Gore has autism, he is in the industry where NT skills are most important. In addition to his successful political career, he has made a fortune in various business enterprises. The thought of Gore as autistic thus intrigues me.

If Gore had a name what would it be?
And would you call it to his face?
If you were faced with him in all his glory
what would you ask if you had just one question?

Yeah, Yeah, Gore is great
Yeah, Yeah, Gore is good
Yeah Yeah yeah yeah yeah

He kind of marches to his own drummer. If not more serious than most other people, he's serious in a different way. And he thinks he's more serious.

And I agree with you that it shouldn't matter. We should embrace diversity, well of course, and look at what a person can contribute rather than the pathway that he or she gets to.

All the same, a little bit I'm wondering if they split because Al needs massive amounts of alone time to think and feel his way through issues, and neither he nor Tipper really understands what's going on with this? (just a theory)

If you ever watch Amadeus, you might be convinced Mozart had Aspergers.

I actually met Al Gore a number of years ago while working one of his political events here in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Very brilliant man, but he came across (to me anyways), to not do well with the general public. You could see that it was hard for him to shake hands and greet people, plus he was very bad with eye contact. A staffer had to point out to him that people wanted to shake his hand.

On the other hand, he has done some fine work in the political and environmental arenas. It has been a discussion in our house, and in some of the political events that I have been in about the possibility of Al Gore having autism/AS.

I think he has a number of Aspie traits and I don't know enough to know whether he fully fits the criteria.

Fascinating. Thanks for the insight!

Quite frankly, Al Gore is just another idiot politician like most others. One thing about those in the spectrum is their obvious honesty . . . that pretty much keeps us out of that profession (my uncle was going to school to be one, this was back in the70s/80s when Asperger's wasnt even in the DSM, and they kicked him out . . . told him to his face he was too honest for the job). Also, this guy is an idiot . . . the whole global warming thing may be happening, but his entire "theatrical presentation" was based on result from a facility that was taking its readings from behind the AC shaft of their building . . . EPIC FAIL!! Also, i doubt an aspie would take single credit for "inventing the internet," as this moron has done. Quite frankly, he is one of those politicians you hear of once, then have no wish to hear from again . . . at least to me . . .

I'd say there's a good chance,. However, most Aspies are honest people, and Al Gore's crusade against global warming has been filled with misinformation and hyperbole.

QFT. Don't forget, even if someone is on the spectrum, that does not mean they're automatically an intelligent person. There are plenty of dumb Aspies just like there are dumb NTs.

At the risk of offending any friends here with political beliefs contrary to mine, I'll just say that I hope Gore isn't one of us... It would tarnish my reputation as a person on the Spectrum  . I doubt that he is, as I don't think most of us could possibly come up with some of the wild, outlandish ideas which he has tried to profess... I have to congratulate him on the fact that he has plenty of talent at fiction writing, and has a way to get people to buy his books for a good profit.
