Just making some peri-peri sauce (which I will post a picture of later) and as I was cutting up the chillies a little bit of the chilli fluid went in my eye. It stung. A lot. First time it ever happened to me. And by God, it stung for about a good ten minutes. And after all that, you can just roast the chillies whole!

So today I've learnt to:

  1. Read the instructions properly before you start.
  2. Take much more care and wear your glasses before you start cutting chillies, avoid sensitive areas like eyes, nose, mouth and genitals.
  3. Don't rush a job like that. Be deliberate.

I look forward to having a bit of peri-peri with that pork and sharing a picture and associated recipe with you. Peri-peri is ace but the way we make it is very strong.

Yes, especially that! I've heard stories of folks cutting up chillies and then going to the bathroom without washing their hands first, I was never that careless but I did rub my eyes once, wooo baby, that stings!

Yes, i have experience of this.
It starts with a tingling sensation, which is quite pleasant, then gradually builds up; not so pleasant.

Not as bad as the contact lens incident.
I too have learnt my lesson.
I like Habanero chillies.

That's a very good lesson to learn.

Oh, ouchie! I can't eat sweet chilli sauce without getting irritated.

You probably won't be making that mistake again.

And here's a picture of the (angry-looking!) sauce!

I think it's probably best used as a dip for now. Until we can manage to hack the strength, that is!

That looks yummy.

About the mistake with the peppers, I did the same thing with Tiger Balm, once and it was very painful. I was about 19 at the time. I've had a redisual amount of that ointment on my fingers, and you don't want to know the rest of the story.
