You must pick a team of living and dead men from the annals of history to save the world.

Be aware only men who really actually lived are allowed.

For me:
Thomas Paine
You need someone to write books to stir the populace.

Carl Sagan
The man will fight to protect science with his life.

H.G. Wells
A genius socialist who will bring Victorian style to the group. And atom bombs. You need LOTS of atom bombs.

Richard Dawkins
Second to Carl Sagan in defense of science.

Thomas Jefferson
To market atheism for the masses

Gene Roddenberry
Once again, here to market a bright future.

Mark Twain
An atheist from the south. Need I say more?

George S. Patton
Ass kicker.

R. Lee Ermy
Ass kicker who can act.

Carlos Hathcock
Ass kicker from a mile off.

Robert E. Lee
Southern gentleman and master tactician.

Mel Gibson
He can be funny, insane, shoot, swing a claymore around, and even racist.

Aristotle
He'll argue down anyone that disagrees with our policies.

Huey Long
Got to have someone to run the gov'ment.

Added Twain to my list.

You do need Southern Comfort with your atheism.

Albert Einstein

(Had to have him. Genius, and may be needed for clout in peace negotiations)

Saladin

(Hey, he was more moderate towards many Christians than some of the Muslims who admire him nowadays. Need a military strategist as well)

Jonathan Swift

(Hey, anyone who said a few centuries ago that child-eating was good for you in satire, and invented a fictitious war on how to eat eggs has got to be a must-have)

Nikola Tesla

(Who knows what he might do nowadays with that noggin of his?)

George Orwell

(Imagine if he saw the war on terror? He'd think it's almost like Nienteen Eighty-Four)

Elizabeths I and II

(If we could get these two monarchs to put their brains together, who knows what'd happen, re statecraft)

These are just off the top of my head, mind you...

Chuck Norris
Bruce Lee
Steven Seagal
Jet Li
Jackie Chan (Somebody has to be the diversion...)

This is all assuming the world would be worth "saving" from whatever ficticious calamity you have envisioned.

I wasn't sure if there would be a need for people to be killed by ridiculous kicking and stomping. If there was such a need, then of course he'd make the team.

At the same time, Steven Seagal breaks necks for fun, and has his own energy drink, and Chuck Norris is a one-man team, so anything past the two of them is almost overkill.

People from other lists:

Thomas Jefferson: Work the political scene in general.
Saladin: Cover any military action neccesary, and restore order in the middle east.
Einstein: Scientific advance in general.

People that haven't been suggested:

Richard Garfield, PhD: Just because he isn't dead doesn't mean his all-around genius and elegant thinking wouldn't be helpful. He also has modest corporate connections to help fund the major pushes.
The Spartans who fought at Perpinople: Every dream team needs muscle, and these guys are true legends. Treacherous goatherds not included, of course.

I think that rather then "saving the world" these group of guys/gals will likely end up getting into a big war over what is really most important.
