You know the expression, "That really chaps my hide"? Well, what do you do when Winter actually brings that condition upon you? I must be getting older, because this is the first year I've really noticed this. Every time I shower, my mid-to-lower back and butt really hurt bad, and they feel very dry and rough. The cause is obviously the weather, but what's the cure, until Spring and Summer get here? Sure, I could do the lotion thing -- if I wanna give up three hours of my day, laying on my stomach. Between that and doing nothing about it, I'm for doing nothing. I HATE lying on my stomach, and never ever do it, even at night.

Anyone here a veteran of the chapped hide? Any conventional wisdom on the subject?

Yep, my hands and my face are always badly cracked in winter, and my nose bleeds every other day. I use extrasuper strength lotion on my hands and face overnight, and.. well, there's not much I can do about my nose except hope spring hurries the hell up

Yeah, on hands and legs. Chapped and cracky and itchy. Not enough lotion in the world.

Two words: Bag Balm. If you can't find it locally, the vermont country store carries it.

You should switch to a soap or shower gel with moisterizer in it. Like Dove.

Having a humidifier in the house will help. For hands and probably also chapped bums use Neutrogenia Hand Cream. A friend introduced me to it. Make sure to get the one labeled hand cream and not their lotion. Also there's something called Gloves in a Bottle that will seal in moisture. Aveeno Baby Lotion also works; anything with dimethicone seals in moisture.

No idea why this works but for cracked finger tips there is this Diabetics lotion available at Walmart that contains tea tree oil and will heal cracked fingertips overnight.
