Like the thread title reads, this is not about the show called Unsolved Mysteries, which aired on NBC in the 1990s.

The question here is: What are the greatest unsolved mysteries that you have come across and have interested you?

Post a list, links to websites, etc.

I don't have a website about it to post but D.B. Cooper is pretty interesting.

^^
There's a movie about Cooper set for release next year about three guys who claimed to be Cooper. I hope the movie will suck and flop out of theaters within a month of its release, and it would be ironic if Bradley Cooper is cast as one of the men who claimed to be Cooper.

Returning to subject, not sure if this fits with this thread, but there is a house in Portland that is called "The Hell House", because the address spells "Hell" if the numbers are flipped upside-down.

A park that is located in my neighborhood is supposedly haunted by a phantom. The phantom, from what many have said, is that of a woman who was killed in the same area in the early 1950s.

Why do you hope that?

As for hauntings, I've seen the face in the court house window in the Pickens County Alabama courthouse in person, and I wasn't impressed. I grew up hearing that ghost story in school every Halloween and when my FIL died he was buried in a cemetery right by there so we stopped by after the funeral and looked at it. I had heard about that place all my life and was so excited to finally see it and then I was very disappointed.

Here is a link to the story about it from Wikipedia. I heard the story read from the book "13 Alabama Ghosts and Jeffery". It's a fairly well known collection of ghost stories from around the state. Even during the other 11 months of the year the book was always checked out of the library or reserved for someone else. I actually got my own coy of it a couple of years ago and it's on my livingroom coffee table.

Aww man, when I first saw the thread, for a nano second, I was excited, but then I say "not about the show". I'm such a UM buff. Anywho, my favorite mysteries are as follows:

1. Life on other planets
2. What happened to Amelia Earhart
3. Why did it rain blobs of goo that contained human white blood cells in Oakville, Washington in 1994? (this happened several times).
4. There are several Jane and John Does I would like identified
-Sumter County 1976 couple, Jacques and Jane Doe
-Cali Doe, 1979
-Andrea Doe, Huntington Beach, 1990

Those human white blood cells obviously came from DB Cooper!

He got chopped up in a helicopter blade while parachuting over the pacific northwest.

Then the corpsuckles got caught in an updraft and didnt fall for another 20 years.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

D.B. Cooper is a good one.

Who was the Zodiac Killer?

Who was jack the ripper?

What is the humanoid form in the Patterson Film ( bigfoot, or man in a gorilla suit)?

Whatever happened to "Absorbine Senior"?

We have a town in Maryland called 'Upper Marlboro".

But there is niether a "Marlboro", or a "Lower Marlboro".

So...what became of "Lower Marlboro"?

What causes spontaneous human combustion?

Do UFO's really exist, or is it just a hoax?

What happened in the Bermuda Triangle?

@ Olive Mom: To answer your question, I don't see the point of another DB Cooper movie, but if the movie was about the hijacking itself, then I'd be more interested.

Returning to subject, there is a mansion in Portland that is supposedly haunted by the first tenants who lived there when it was first built.

I can answer one of those at least.

Spontaneous human combustion..isn't spontaneous. Its the opposite. Its very, very slow. The flames are fueled by the body's own fat which burns at a snail's pace (since the water in the body, even inside the fat cells slow its progress). The result is a very thorough burn down to the ashes (including bone in many cases) of only the areas where the fat is...aka the flame is so weak it does not have much potential to ignite other materials around it since it does not generate that much heat (the flames that is..but the burning area at the surface of the body tissues burns hot enough to turn stuff to ash).

That is why when there's these cases of 'spontaneous human combustion' they find bodies charred to ashes but nothing around them had heat damage..except the areas where the body was resting in.

My mysteries?

What lineage did Homo Floresiensis belong to? (I'm guessing it was an advanced H. Habilis)
Why did the Neanderthals become extinct?
Was the 'Wow' signal picked up by SETI truly of ET origin? WOW!

What was really behind the "Mothman" and other strange sightings in Point Pleasant, WV in the 1960s?

What is the purpose of the neurotransmitter DMT which when artificially elevated caused profound psychedelic hallucinations?
