For reasons of Nostalgia, I wish to know the bus my Mother used to take me on that went from Orpington railway station, to Knockholt Village in Kent between 1964 and 1966.

Now I distinctly remember these buses were single deck half cabs with the entrance door at the front. Completely in London Country Green.

THIS LINK is exactly how I remember them, but in Green,
It is possible though that it might have been an AEC Regal III but I think the Leyland Tiger PS1 more likely.

The thing is, all the links on these buses claim they all went out of service by 1962, yet I only went into the Knockholt Childrens home in 64.

So, if anybody here knows exactly the situation in 1964 of the Orpington to Knockholt route, I would Love to hear what you know.

I love travelling on a bus. What a treat!

When I was a kid I knew nearly all the bus routes in Manchester. Even now, if I need to go somewhere I always find my way by following the bus route.

I cycle everywhere these days.

I lived in Glossop when the buses were deregulated, sometimes I would go into Manchester by bus, what I noticed after deregulation, was that suddenly there where masses of filthy buses with nobody on them, clogging up the streets of Manchester, as if every entrepreneur had gone out and bought a bus hoping to make some money.

This was around 1990, hopefully its not so bad now.
Some of these buses were so dirty that you couldn't see out the windows, that would of course make me travel sick, what then made it worst was the exhaust fumes leaking into the compartment, and the Government thought it was doing a good thing!

Good job that on the rare occasion I had to take the bus to work into Stockport, and had to change buses just across the road from a Dr Shipmans surgery, I didnt feel quite too bad!

Dr. Shipman's surgery eh? Yeah, I know it well.

I would think the buses are marginally cleaner now. It depends what service you get and whether or not you choose to sit upstairs.

I was always the little s**t stood at the front mithering the driver. Or sat on the top deck rolling a bifta.

Oh the memories. You can't go back though. Perhaps that's a good thing.

I've been obsessed with the original Routemasters longer than I've been a Kinks Fan. The obsession started when I was 5.
