I think I found out why I crave hot things (red pepper flakes, jalapenos, hot mustard, etc. )

If I'm eating a meal where I could have a hot/spicy condiment on it, but there is not any available, I kind of freak out a little. I'll go way out of my way to get ahold of some jalapenos or Cholula sauce, etc sometimes.

: I read yesterday that you get addicted to the rush that it gives. Release of adrenaline, temporarily elevated blood pressure and heart rate, etc

It all makes sense now!

I remember when I went down to Nashville to try and break into the music business. I failed, but I did learn something down there - those folks sure love their sweet ice tea and hot sauce. They carry their hot sauces with them when they go to fried chicken places like Mrs. Winner's Chicken and Biscuits. Fast food restaurants keep it in stock because it's used so frequently. They even have restaurants to reflect that such as Hattie B's Hot Chicken, Prince's Hot Chicken Shack and Nashville Hot Chicken. There's also a Nashville-styled fried fish. Yep. They love them some hot sauces.

I had a notorious experience once at a local Indian restaurant. They serve their dishes and you can spice it up from 1 to 5. I'd eaten at a Thai restaurant recently and even their hottest dish wasn't even so hot at all. I told the Indian restaurant they can spice it to 5. I don't mind.

The food they gave me was so hot it made my eyes and mouth water. Literally, I was tearing up. The waitress brought me water and asked if I was okay. I told her yeah. Wow! It was hot. Never ate anything so hot in my life. I couldn't even taste the food for the heat. And of course, like all extremely spicy food, you feel it leaving just as you do entering.

I don't need it to be that hot. Just, like say, jalapeno hot, or tabasco hot. Although sometimes I'll get into some El Yucateco habanero sauce, which is definitely getting up there near the realm of the hottest of hot asian foods. BUT -- I only use a tiny tiny bit like when I get asian hot mustard for my shrimp, etc. Give me a whole plate of super hot food, I probably would not survive.

Yeah, I'm a big fan of spicy food. Not such a fan of hot sauce necessarily (due to the amount of sugar and artificial enhancers and crap they put into those kind of products).

I have tuna salad on a daily basis and I always buy whole fresh green jalapeno chilli's from the supermarket and chop them up to add to the salad. Not marinated ones, the fresh ones from the fruit and veg section. I love the marinated ones too but they're less spicy so I have to add a massive amount to salad to make it spicy enough.

I love hot and spicy foods. Cajun, Mexican, Asian, what have you. It's so delectable on my taste buds. :)

I prefer spicy food (or savory). I can't stand bland food.

I'm from south Louisiana & the food there can be spicy. I like some spicy food if there's spices instead of sauces because I don't like sauces or condiments besides salt & pepper.

I also love it spicy. The Indians have some of the hottest peppers in the world, the Naga Jolokia, or Ghost Pepper, exceed only by the Trinidad Scorpion Moruga.

<--- You'd think he would know what the Trinidad Scorpion Moruga was. Shame on him.

Spices do have some health benefits. For example pepper can increase blood circulation which helps blood-pressure, heart, energy, metabolism, & increased blood flow is theorized to help hair growth. I take a pepper supplement for those reasons & sense I'm used to getting more spices than I am now but I take a lower dosed one 3x a day with food(I take it when there's still a bit of food left on my plate) so it won't upset my stomach.
