I really hate not having health insurance. So much that I'm seriously considering moving to Canada. I actually despise cold weather and Pennsylvania is cold enough, but I want free health insurance that bad sometimes.

I'm really fed up right now. I want to see a shrink for an official dx. I want to have a family doctor to run some tests and figure out why I'm so lethargic and sleep for 13 hours at a time. I want to be able to go to physical therapy for my scoliosis, maybe even get a brace. And on top of that, last night I hurt my arm somehow and woke up in excruciating pain. I figured I sprained it somehow but the pain WOULD NOT STOP. I decided I was going to have to go to the ER because it was becoming plain intolerable. But after thinking seriously about it, I realized I'd probably just end up with a doctor giving me a sling and telling me to take some Ibuprofen. Then he'd send me a $300 bill. So I figured I'd call the hospital and talk to someone. Get some advice, ask them what they'd be able to do for me. I call, and they tell me they don't give out medical advice. So yeah. Screw them.

So who lives in Canada? Tell me about your health insurance experiences, good and bad. Tell me anything about Canada... especially if you've experienced the crap that is America. How do I become a citizen? Oh yeah, and tell me about your government. How strict are your piggies? Do you call them piggies? What about all those French people? Am I gonna need to learn French? And pot laws too. I like pot and I hear you guys are lenient about that kind of stuff. And what's it like having bagged milk?

Unfortunately my fiance is on parole until 2011, so we can't move out of the country until then at least. But it's something to think about.

You could check the NHS website (UK) for your arm, it gives medical advice for non-experts. Sorry I can't be of any help regarding Canada apart from that most of it is English-speaking.

I hope it's lighter and sunnier down there than it is up here, because I'm thinking of going down there... I don't like darkness!

*pop*
so here i am in your canada thread... :)
well, pretty much everything you are eager for, you can get without having to pay...i understand that y'all have to pretty much pay for everything down there? i don't know much about your heathcare system except that pretty much everyone hates it.

the worst part about ours that i have found is that when you want to see a specialist for anything, it seems you are put on the waiting list...and these waiting lists seem to last forever until it's your turn...

i'm not really sure how you'd become a citizen...seems though that we let just about anyone from anywhere in here, so i'm sure it's not too difficult

as for our government, well...yeah. and we only refer to our police as piggies...

'all those french people'...lmao!! ! that was funny...well, depending on where you want to move, you may never even encounter a french speaking person...(and hell, if you do, i'll help you translate...lol) and not all of us worship celine dion. most of us anglophones can't stand her, quite honestly. so, no, you probably will not need to learn french, unless of course you move to a highly populated french speaking area...or quebec.

as for the pot laws, i really have no idea, never had the need for pot. i know you can purchase it here, i have a friend who is a recreational user, and he seems to have no problem with it. *shrugs*

and bagged milk? you mean *gasp* not everyone has bagged milk? how else does it come? (just kidding) it's really not all that special. tastes just like bottled or however else milk is packaged. you would just have to get used to the sizing of it...in canada we speak metric. lol.

and yeah, the parole thing with your fiance...that could pose a problem, depending on what he's on parole for. i know there are certain offences here that if there is a conviction (like a weapons offense) we cannot enter your country...i don't know if that works the same both ways though...you may need to look into it. i do believe there are ways around it though.

good luck and if you do decide to come up here (and the bagged milk is the real reason, isn't it? you're just using the free healthcare as a cover, right? ) let me know. i'll break out that french-english dictionary and give you some lessons. or i'll buy you a timmies at the very least....

Yeah, we pay for every. little. thing. Just to walk into a doctors office to find out that you're fine is like 23940i8239048 dollars. With an "I" in there. 'Cause it's a number now.

Yeah. Celine Dion sucks. I hated you maple leafy people for a while for bestowing her upon us. I'm learning to forgive though ;)

As for my fiance's offenses, a couple counts of burglary I think, escape, and a ret*d drug charge (because he took the fall for someone in his family). No weapons or anything though. As far as I know it's impossible for him to be allowed to move out of the country while still on parole. Or at least very unlikely.

I was so intrigued by the concept of bagged milk that I had to look up a tutorial for using such a storage contraption on the net :P Maybe you can send me some so I can get the hang of what it's like to be Canadian? Some hockey sticks maybe? Mmm, stereotypes :P

Thanks for popping in! Oh, and what the hell is a "timmie"?

Low prices? Sexy.

What's the job market like up there? Cost of living?

job market is generally good
living too
alberta is costly though there is an economic boom there so it rather balances it self out
Canada is a better country then the states to live in IMO
lower cost of living, more jobs
colder though
but that's a given

Seriously though. No "aboot"? That's somewhat disappointing.
