Does a spiritual, mental, emotional and abstract plane of existence exist in addition to the physical plane of existence?

I believe Heaven exists, if that's what you're talking about. But I get really uncomfortable around abstract terms like "higher power" or "another plane". To me, it screams of pantheistic "God is everywhere" philosophy. :(

Current evidence - actually, the total lack thereof - indicates 'No'.

I was going to say that we'll all find out--probably sooner than we'd like, but then I realized even if it does exist, it doesn't follow that you'll go there when you die. Where are you when your awareness is nowhere?

Our feelings/souls or whatever are all chemical reactions. So they are all physical.

I lean towards the idea that human conciousness partly involves Quantum Mechanics.

Now the question is whether Quantum Mechanics is really a physical effect in the sense we usually think of such things. This is an utterly bizarre part of our reality, but may have interesting influences on life forms.

I used to be an atheist materialist who believed that death was the final end. It didn't bother me at all, I just presumed that death (provided it wasn't too painful or prolonged) would just be like going to sleep, I.e., imperceptible to the person undergoing the process.

However, over the years I have had several experiences that have proved to me that there is an aspect of the personality that can exist independently of the body, and that this aspect of the personality can survive physical death. I regard myself as fortunate to have had these experiences, although I am clearly in no way unique.

I regard this as a proven fact to the best of my satisfaction, despite the fact that I could not possibly prove it to others by empirical means.

I believe that this is an aspect of the consciousness problem.

Science still cannot measure or quantify consciousness, and I therefore conclude (provisionally) that consciousness is a non-material phenomenon which (to the best of our current understanding) is associated with certain types of organic matter, rather than arising from it.

I can't draw any further conclusions than that. But the conclusions I have been able to draw so far are quite far-reaching enough for me to be getting on with for now.

Sure it does. Anything you can think of exists, and tons more things you cannot even conceive of.

The real question is what do you do about it. :D
