Am I the only who thinks that iced coffee is delightful, but hot coffee that has gone cold is gross?
Why is that?

Iced coffee is the best. Hot coffee that has turned cold is not liked by many people. I think room temp. coffee when you are expecting hot or cold feels rather stale. However, putting it in the fridge for long enough turns it into a decent cold coffee.

It's weird, but where I work it's cold and the coffee doesn't just get room temp if you forget it, it gets cold. But it's still blech! Next time I'll try putting it in the fridge, see if I can trick myself.

I cannot handle hot drinks in general, all that goes down my gullet has to be ice-cold. ice-cold coffee is just what the good doctor [dr. feelgood] ordered :)

It depends on the coffee.

Somtimes I've tried taking black cool coffee and adding ice cubes and creamer to it. It's now quick Ice Coffee and not to bad.

Or other times, I just want the caffeine and will drink down black coffee hot or cool. A good Kona coffee will probably still taste okay.

I like coffee at any temperature, as long as it's a decent strength. Weaker coffee tends to taste worse at room temperature to me. :?

in australia, hot coffee is usually made using mostly hot water with about 50 ml of milk to "damp" the bitterness. iced coffee is usually made using only full cream milk.

a watery beverage that has gone cold is not appetising because part of the "kick" from hot coffee is the warm feeling in one's chest as it goes down. to have it "go down" cold is an affront to ones default expectation, and therefore is an unpleasant experience (in my opinion).

iced coffee is more delicious cold i think because i drink iced coffee to slake thirst, whereas i drink hot coffee for the sensation.

If I want to have iced coffee, it seems to taste better if I refrigerate it immediately after I brew it. Maybe the volatile aromatic esters have less time to evaporate?

This could similar to when hard ice cream melts. I don't like it that way. But soft serve ice cream, which some people may say is the same as the melted hard stuff (isn't in my opinion)..is fine :)

If a certain food is warm, your tongue is able to catch up much more aromes. Coffee that is done for drinking cold on purpose, is because of that in its taste specialised for being drunken cold, so normally as example its added more sugar into it, then its in hot coffee, because when its cold you cant taste the sweetness as much. As well that an hot fresh coffee, offers you tons of nice aromas, that are "hiding" the bitterness, while when it gets cold, the aromas are fading, while the bitterness stays.

Its pretty comparable to food that you get in airplanes. Its as well special spiced, because whyever, if you eat under lower air pressure, then you can taste spices less, and so airplane food is mostly heavily spiced, while it taste "normal" to you, when eating it in the airplane.

To be honest most of the drinks I end up getting to are cold and I have grown to like them. But yeah originally I couldn't stand cold coffee. But black coffee tastes better than milky coffee once it has gone cold. Schneekul that's interesting stuff about taste buds. True that you learn something new every day :-D

Mom LOVED coffee. Actually liked the taste of it. I drank it for the caffeine - and only slowly aquired a taste for it (like scotch I like it for the kick).

And she is probably the only person Ive ever met who habitually drank 'iced coffee' the way most Americans drink 'iced tea'. I dont dislike iced coffee, and have even turned friends on to it the odd custom of imbibing it. But I still prefer iced tea.

Like most I dont like the taste of cold coffee reheated, but I drink it anyway because i usually drink coffee mixed with carnation instant breakfast, and/or the leftover milk from my cereal anyway. It helps to take that cup that you zaped in the microwave, put it back in the pot, and then brew a fresh cup up on top of it so they mix. Fifty-fity old and fresh hot coffee passes for fresh IMO.

I love iced coffee. As a matter of fact, I can't drink hot drinks. They must be at least at room temperature, if not cold. I even drink cold hot chocolate. I don't know why some people think cold coffee is gross. I mean it's still coffee, even if it got cold.
