What do you think about them? Do you want to quash them or do you want to nurture them?

I don't like them too much. Sometimes I am afraid of them too. Feels silly to be afraid sometimes but I guess that is not too unusual. I leave them alone if they are outside and squash them if they are inside. I like bees and butterflies though.

I want to love and nurture them. They're a part of the life chain and I respect all forms of life from conception until natural death.

Your question triggered memories that probably haven't popped up for half a century. When I was a little girl I spent a ridiculous ammount of time "rescuing" bugs. I would rescue insects from spider webs, ants from their hot ant mounds, roley poleys from under heavy rocks, waterlogged worms from gutters, and moths from lights. I would put them in my "bug hospital" until they "recovered." I actually don't remember any of them actually "getting better" and "going home," but I know that was my intention. I also brought home wounded birds and turtles. I think they all died. Then we would give them elaborate funerals. I would open the bible and randomly read from it [ and Seth begat Jonah, and Jonah begat David, stuff like that.] OMG! I just realized what I am, a senior citizen reminising about the "good old days."

Gastronomically, bugs are the final frontier. I haven't ventured out to eat the chapulines, fried crickets, they serve here in Seattle because I have to drive out of my way and do some extravagant parking. (Parking's a nightmare in Seattle). They're next on my list of things to try, though.

Neither. I'm terrified of them, so I just would rather not see them at all. Want to see a 36 year old man scream like a girl and lock himself in the bathroom? Show me a spider.

What's even weirder - my 13 year old niece has the same thing, but far worse. If she sees a spider, or a bee, she will have a complete breakdown. She can't hardly even go outside in the summer. It's heartbreaking to see because here mom, and her grandparents reaction is to yell at her and tell her to stop. I know that at least I will get some professional help for this, but she has years and years of suffering and trauma ahead of her.

So I guess I'm supposed to love them and want to nurture them but bugs - Nuke them from orbit.

Ever since childhood I've had extreme fascination with insects/spiders/etc, but also had a few horrible experiences where they surprised me (oddly, these were worse than when I was stung/bitten without seeing a bugger).

If I see an insect, I'll usually put it outside, if it's outside I'd never do anything worse than shooing it away from me. Spiders stay inside if they are small enough to be covered with a bowl, bigger I'd toss em outside. If they're on me, usually softly flick them off. Moths are awesome, I leave them alone. Mosquitoes get killed on sight. Bees get distance. Ants get killed inside...

I hate cockroaches about as much as I love butter/dragonflies.

Love to watch dragonflies, and damselflies.

And they eat tons of OTHER bugs (like gnats, and mosquitoes) that I don't like.

Do caterpillars count? My sisters and I sometimes bring some home and keep them as short-term pets.

I'm afraid of insects. To the point of "Aaaah, get that away from me!" At the same time, I never kill them, because a squashed bug is even more disgusting for me than a live one.

Except for butterflies and ladybugs. These are nice.

Interestingly though, I'm ok with spiders. Well, they're not insects.

Back in the day, I used to live in a crack motel. There were roaches everywhere. One day I got fed up with it and decided to "bomb" my room. When it was done, I opened up the door and noticed hundreds, perhaps thousands, of dead roaches everywhere. They were crawling out of the walls like nothing I'd ever seen. There were so many they even had albino ones, too.

It took a while to scrape them all up as some died on the walls and ceilings and remained there. Some of my neighbours complained because the "bombing" also caused roaches to leave my area and go into adjoining rooms. I'd never seen such a disgusting place in my life. The proprietors new about it but didn't give a toss.

I tried it when I was in the army at JBLM. fried crickets are okay. I agree with the parking in Seattle thing. Royal nightmare. I eventually parked near Pike's Place and went to some restaurant with a friend where we had the things.

I like bugs.I am not to fond of being bitten or stung by them. And some can be annoying when they chomp on the garden. But they are cool to watch and some are beautiful. And there are plenty of bugs here.I guess my least favorite of all are fleas.

I mostly like to nurture them. I hate killing things. I don't see the point in fleas, I dislike wasps and hornets because they sting, I don't like flies to land on my food, and I have a common phobia of spiders, but I still get upset if anyone kills them. :)

In Autumn I try to collect moths that come into the house at night, and I take them to my room. I know this does not do them any good, but I feel like they are company to me. I also collect crane flies (daddy long legs with wings), and they don't hurt the moths and the moths don't hurt them. Often the crane flies mate on my curtains, by sitting back to back with (I'm guessing) the end of the male's body is in the end of the female's body.

I do love bees, although they are kind of scary when they're hovering about near your head, but bees are very useful and they're usually just looking for pollen or whatever it is they collect, so they generally leave you alone if you don't start flapping your hands about. I've actually read somewhere that bees get worried when seeing someone moving quickly, and they only sting you to defend themselves.
