things keep going missing in my house then reappearing in very obvious places a few days later. i lost a hat about a week ago then found it on my bedroom floor yesterday. but then somehow managed to lose my new headphones yesterday (the big bulky kind) and i was the only one home and know exactly where i had set them down but now they're completely gone, i tore up the house and they're just gone. my mom blames things like this on ghosts. im just curious how many people here believe in that kinda stuff? im mostly undecided.

I lose things because I play with things & am careless when I put them down & put them down in various places. I also have low vision & problems with my brain not registering things I do see; like I could be looking at something that I can see but my brain won't register that it was there when I looked. Others lose things for various reasons that don't involve others including pets moving them, getting knocked accidentally, wind(having a window open, fans, passing by fast) & somewhat rarer sleep-walking. I heard of people who believed they had ghosts & started losing things after believing things it was their ghost actually losing them because they were sleep-walking.

I believe lots of things people think are ghosts have scientific reasons that have yet to be explained kind of like how native Americans thought things like the sun & rain were gods.

My cats cart things off. I found my wedding jewelry in my cat's bed once. They are why things go missing in my house.

I think it may be the sock monster. You know, when you put the washing away there's always odd socks without their partner. Recently in our house I've noticed that towels are going missing as well. Our house must be favourable for the sock monster and it's grown big enough to take towels now. I fear that if this doesn't cease soon we may have to burn the house down to get rid of it, before it gets big and strong enough to take people. :D

I don't think misplacing things is particularly unusual. Yes, some people have better memories than others, but I think it's mostly routines/habits. For example, I don't take my keys out of my pocket unless I'm putting them where they're supposed to be. That way I rarely misplace my keys because I'm not relying on memory or awareness. With little children you keep important things out of their reach. With big kids though, well, there's no real answer. With things like hair brushes, nail clippers, etc. I just have at least half a dozen of them. Even though they're never where they are meant to be you will usually find one lying around somewhere.

As far as ghosts go, I would need to see something more tangible than the incidental before I would say I believed in them.
