i live in a town called "wentworth falls" situated in the blue mountains west of sydney.
it is at an altitude of 825 metres (2700 ft). it is about 90 km west of the CBD of sydney.
here is a picture of the view just down the road (about 200 meters from my place):

winds can be quite dramatic during august with gales of up to 110 kmh.
during summer, we get many severe electrical thunderstorms (without the damaging winds usually) and it is quite exciting.
there is always the threat of bushfires where i live, and due to the terrain, they are very difficult to fight.
there is 4,000 square kilometers of unexplored bushland in the valleys between the mountains (which are more plateaus than mountains really), and there are no fire trails or any other means of access. even aborigines are thought to have not traversed that land due to the fact that there are sheer cliffs on every side. there is thought to be a species of giant lizard related to goanna's that are twice the size of komodo dragons that inhabits that area... interesting.
