Threads not getting very many replies

Do you hate when your threads don't get very many replies? Especially if the post is short and it has over 100 views?

It doesn't bother me in the least. People reply to whom and to what they want to reply to.

Sometimes it can be disapointing, but that's a long way from hate.

A lot of the views are from web crawling computers, not actual members.

Where do you find the number of views? I didn't know about that.

How many replies do you consider being not many?

It seems like unless you are part of the WP "In Crowd", or your thread is in L&D and involves "nice guy syndrome" or "women have it easier", this is normal.

I can't claim to have been here long, but it seems to be the kind of place it is. There's a few popular members who always get tons of replies, which is probably because they're on here a lot and very active, and if your post is especially controversial you may be getting far more posts than you'd wish for. Especially as most of them will be full of bile, but then again, that second part is pretty universal for the whole internet.

It kinda sucks, but it's far from the worst thing that a forum could be.

It helps to have something interesting to say.

People take this one way too seriously, I see the topic come up about as often as speculating if historical figures were aspies. The ugly truth of it is that aside from the joke or running threads, the only reliable way to consistently get a lot of replies it to troll with the thread title, so that people want to respond to you, whether to agree or dispute. What usually catches your eye first when perusing a newspaper article or website; the author's name, or the headline? Think of it as an exercise in headline writing, and if you're good at writing interesting threads or are otherwise personable, then maybe people will seek your threads out specifically, but only in time.

It may not have anything to do with your topics themselves. People respond to things that they know about, and if they are unfamiliar with what you are posting about, or have nothing to add, you won't get any replies. I know that I seem to get tons of replies to threads I don't care the least about, but hardly any to a few where I really do want some input. But that's just because people know more about those other things!

Sometimes people may not feel comfortable responding to a thread and may want to read only.

It does surprise that some threads, uninteresting to me, sees pages upon pages of replies. I'm always stunned by that. What do people see about this or that particular thread that they keep it going for so long. One thing I did notice, though, is threads veer off into a different area which gives them new life. Somewhere along the way the original OP gets abandoned and it simply devolves into a poster vs. poster arena.
