Fashion advice and matching colors
I have to dress up every so often, usually just business casual. Even though a tie is not required with business casual, I like to wear a white oxford medium spread collar shirt with a tie. I have black and light khaki colored "khaki" dress pants. I don't like wearing a suit jacket or blazer and a just a dress shirt, tie, dress pants, and dress shoes without a jacket is something to avoid.
So, for the winter, I bought a few solid color crew neck and v-neck sweaters to put over the dress shirt and tie. I liked black pants better than khaki colored pants so my first question is, does a forest green sweater match black pants? I would never wear a navy or black sweater with black pants but I think my vibrant blue sweater looks good with black pants. I'm not sure about the forest green though.
My second question has to do with choosing between a crew neck and a v-neck sweater. I like the crew neck sweater even though the crew neck only shows the very top of the tie knot. But I get the impression that some people will think I just carelessly put on a sweater without thinking about the style implications, which is not true. So, what is better, crew neck or v-neck? Opinions on style forums (which I don't care to join) seem mixed on this point. Some prefer crew necks when wearing a tie while others say it only makes sense to wear a v-neck sweater because it shows the tie.
Third, what color/pattern of tie do you think goes with a forest green sweater? How about a gold and green stripe tie? How about a gold and blue stripe tie for the blue sweater? Are striped ties stylish these days? I like geometric ties just as much as striped ties but I tend to dislike plaid ties.
Any thoughts?
