The truth is, its everywhere. Energy drinks, coffees, pop, etc. Kids pour it down their throats. Whats worse is that caffeine IS PROVEN to be addicted which is MOST NOTABLE in an office setting where almost EVERYONE drinks it. Change the office pot to "decaf" and weed out those who depend on it. Yes, DEPEND.

Side effects from Caffeine use include:
* Agoraphobia (fear of being in open places) or (this one is digging in the dirt)
* Anxiety or
* Convulsions (seizures) (in newborn babies) or
* Heart disease, severe or
* High blood pressure or
* Panic attacks or
* Trouble in sleeping—Caffeine may make the condition worse
* Liver disease—Higher blood levels of caffeine may result, increasing the chance of side effects

Now, its proven addictive and worse is that these drinks CAN contain high amounts of sugar, such as "coca cola." Abuse of this "beverage" can result in the above problems as well as:

* Weight Gain/obesity
* Bone "fragility" (due to "copper deficiency")
* Diabetes

Additional side effects from drinking caffeine cola's can include:
1. Cardiovascular Problems
2. Stress
3. Emotional Disturbances
4. Blood Sugar Swings
5. Gastrointestinal Problems
6. Nutritional Deficiencies
7. Male Health Problems
8. Female Health Problems
9. Adrenal Exhaustion
10. Aging

Now, we had 3 threads on the "dangers" of pot. I want to make this very clear that if you look at many, many things we ALL enjoy in life, then there will be "cons" to them. I think its healthy and natural to take note and base the decision on your own RESPONSIBILITY. If you drink 5 pops a day, don't you think thats a bit much? If you continue to drink 5 and increase it to 10, who's fault is that?

BTW, to make this "worth being in this particular forum," does anyone find caffeine helps them socialize? I find, if I have some now, I'd be pretty wired and full of energy but nothing much more.

BTW, I vote "rarely" but I dont drink coffee, rarely drink tea (havent in months), only drink decaf pops, and rarely have any chocolate to eat. (Damn right I'm bored) :wink:

Its been estimated 90% of people use it daily. I have not abused it in awhile. I do feel
those that are using it will certainly pay for it on judgement day :)

I drink three cups of tea, every day, and water the rest of the time. I'm cutting down to two cups of tea.

Tea, I'm not shocked :wink:

Though, green tea has been shown to "prolong" lives. Thats the last cup of tea I drank.

Tea is a weird one as its got a whole bunch of stuff that can help/not help you. I think tea is the best of the "caffeinated" beverages

Themachine, 90%? holy! Though, I'm not shocked because I really think I'm the only one in my office not chugging coffee

chocolate doesnt actually contain very much caffiene, the effects are mostly due to the high concentration of theobromine. Tea has significant levels of theophylline which accounts for its 'gentler' effect compared to coffee, cola and the other obscure plants.

Ive had a feverish cold this past week, so been using chocolate & tea for their cough-suppressant, decongestant and paracetamol synergistic properties. Ive found i can help clear a stuffy nose with surprisingly low doses of chocolate.

Good concept for a thread btw!

Caffiene sends my anxiety through the roof. I'm hypersensitive or something.

I heard last week that black/green tea helps protect the cardiovascular system, but if you add milk, it completely nulls the protective effects. (probably because calcium blocking the absorption)

Really? Hmm.. I know many drink it straight but never thought there'd be a difference. Well, I wont add milk to my tea, next time, and note what happens

The anxiety is caused by a semi-permanent(or permanent) change in gene expression namely N-methyl transferase.
It helps convert dopamine into epinephrine for panic attacks, stress and dreaded feeling.
Caffeine doesn't cause weight loss. That's wrong. All stimulants work by stimulating the adrenal glands to secrete hormones such as epinephrine and cortisol. These stress the body to burn more calories.
Taking stimulants is like putting yourself in "fight or flight" mode by free will.

A friend of mine is a chronic caffeine abuser. He never did street drugs. Still he looks like an amphetmaine binger or a heroinist.
Caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine should be regulated as well as all the other evil drugs like pot, Heroin, meth and coke that already are regulated.

I don't believe those side effects but one of them I think is true is the panic attacks.

No caffeine for me, except for chocolate. Chocolate barely has any caffeine in it, and I eat it frequently, but I don't ever eat large amounts of it. I drink lots of tea, but I only buy the caffeine free kind.

For comparison, milk chocolate only has 6mg of caffeine per ounce. One cup of coffee has 100mg or more of caffeine.

The real truth about caffiene is that it isn't a drug like pot is. I don't see many people dissing pot.
