I don't really care much about them but one time I read something about police cars and how some of them have really big alternators for their electrical load and how they have things on them to make them spin a lot faster then the engine so at idle they can produce more current then an average car can by a whole lot and then much more when the engine is running at a higher RPM like driving. Also I read how because of the fact that the alternator has the thing on it to speed it up that it has to have a special thing so that when the engine is shut off that the alternator becomes disconnected from the engine so that it can spin down and not just stop instantly when the engine stops because that would be hard on it because it has the thing on it to make it spin so fast and it would wear it out real quick to be spinning super fast and then instantly come to a dead halt. Also I read about how they will often have a secondary battery like a deep cycle battery for their big electrical requirements so that it won't interfere with the main battery for starting the engine. I guess so that if the alternator isn't makeing enough current at an idle for a huge load then it won't kill the main battery or if they had something running for too long when the engine was off then they could still start the car. Though it's not good to run lead batteries completly dead because it damages them so they want to avoid that. Anyway I thought hat was interesting. Sorry if this was kind of long.

Love ya' Alex, but tanks usually do not actually have artillary. Artillary has the ability to elevate the tube at high angles, and aiming systemologies to allow for indirect fire. Tanks are capable of only moderate elevation, and usually lack indirect fire control capability. Tanks specialize in direct fire. Now, and M - 105. . . :D

TOO MUCH INFORMATION!! !! !

Also, tanks are relatively poor at antipersonnel missions. Okay sort of with a coax gun and a lot of cannister, but most ammo stocks are various anti armour medicines. Just get out of its way!

I'm a big WWll buff. I like reading and/or seeing about tanks during the war. The German Tiger was quite fearsome. While the Yank's Sherman was a bit on the lightweight side. Recently I went with the Missus to one of those stores that have crafty items, and they had plastic model tanks ! !! I was looking at the various Tiger versions they had. I didn't get one, as I still have two WWll airplane models to finish ! !

I love the study, but never could build a model worth hookey hookey doo. and then I won twomodel planes from an early TV lid's show contest, built them poorly and my loving sister stompped them to tiny bits!

Tanks are pretty rubbish at antipersonnel missions in urban areas, because there is so much cover and places to hide, from where troops can fire RPGs. You need to be careful. It helps to bring along some tanks equipped with gattling guns and missiles for supression fire.

Add.. say 2 side chainguns/LMGs, and perhaps two on the front, and you have yourself covered against infantry in the open. But you should also have heavily armoured APCs, carrying well equipped and supplied infantry for whatever task is needed.

im ok with them, i see about 2 per day here. my dad sees about all of them every day just about, hes always having his mechanics repair or letter one. they do have very powerful engines and protected gas tanks.

once my dad let me put numbering on side of fender and he put the sheild with town name on it. i have also helped work on engine and manifold of one, those things do have big engines, last one had a problem that when you turn on air conditioner, the fuse would pop (some relay was at fault) they use ford crown vic and chevy intercepter (police series towncar)

hopefully i will never have to sit in the backseat with silver bracelets linked together with 3 inches of chain.

I'm interested in military tech in general, guns in particular, but tanks are pretty fracking cool too!

I try and avoid police cars. In particular, I don't much like seeing them in my rear-view mirror.

As for tanks & cities, I'd point out that this is the reason we do combined arms operations with tank & infantry together. The big fight to clear Fallujah relied heavily on using tanks with anti-personel shells of various sorts to smash strongpoints, including the standard HEDP rounds, pure HE rounds, and what can only be described as God's Own Sawed-Off Shotgun cannister rounds.
