You won't feel a thing if you lick your fingertips first.

That's a matter of time vs. temperature. The trick is that the candle wick cools faster than your skin can heat up enough to cause a burn, as long as you pinch the flame QUICKLY. Same goes for fixing logs in a campfire. If you reach in with lightning speed and poke a burning log into a better position, you won't be burnt. But if you aren't fast about it, you WILL be burnt!

I've done it. If you're fast and lick your fingertips you won't feel anything. Just try not to break the wick off by being too hasty; I've panicked and crushed wicks doing it.

Wouldn't do that. Just thinking this reminds me of Jackass.

It's like testing a hot iron, lick your finger tips and be fast.I'd rather do this than blow them out because the smoke stinks.

I heard water conducts heat so licking fingers would make them get hotter faster for testing a hot iron but it might help for putting out the candle sense water puts out fire. The trick I learned for blowing them out is not to breath in facing them when close; I take my breath with my head turned away or before I get near it & then turn my head away or start walking away before breathing in after.

"Oww, that bloody hurts! What's the trick?"
"The trick is to not care that it hurts."
