Physical effects of certain sounds
I have no idea if this is related to ASD, but there are certain sounds that cause me to have a physical reaction and I wondered if anyone else has experienced the same.
Here are 2 examples:
1). High pitched sound from pressure cooker causes inability to speak properly.
My step-grandfather (now deceased) had a slow cooker. Once the pressure had built up inside the unit the pressure release valve would let out steam. When it did so it made a high pitched hiss. For me the result was that I was unable to speak without lisping & struggling to say words correctly whilst hearing the sound.
2). Near to where I live is a ferry service, and sometimes when it is leaving the port it creates a low frequency droning sound (maybe the propellers going round). The noise seems to go right through the ground, and when I hear it I feel physically sick. the low frequency "humm" causes me to feel like vomiting. It is a horrible noise.
The other day I heard a bus making a simular sound. I felt sick.
Has anyone else experienced the same or simular effects of low or high frequency sounds?

We, the people on the Autistic Spectrum have a choice.
We can either try to "fit in" with the rest of society, or we can be so egocentric that we can't be bothered.
I choose the actor. I observe NT's. I listen to their socializing. I practice it, so in social situations I can just emulate/mimic what is expected.
It isn't natural for me, but it enables me to "fit in".
It is VERY tiring and draining, but at least we can appear like them even though it is an act. Like being on the stage.
They can't see it is emulation, and so we are accepted.
Yes, I can relate with both examples. I am however not sure if it has the same causes for me as it has for you.
As for 1, high pitched noises are very distracting for me. It distracts and annoys me so much that I struggle to concentrate with speaking. My mind is constantly going "turn it off!!".
As for 2... hmm.. not sure. I have this too but I'm not entirely sure what causes it. Like when there's loud music playing and there's a low bass part I start to feel sick. I don't have this problem when it's low pitched but not loud.

I am enjoying the 35db loss at high frequency, many of those things that cause problems are not nearly as bad now
low frequency I still hear perfectly clear and I hate it, makes me want to leave society altogether. heavy machinery and loud stereos cause problems make me sick and hurt my insides - even earplugs and hearing protection together don't seal it out.
