Well, who on here was left-handed as a child and later retrained to use the right-hand instead? Did you change back to your dominate hand later on or not?

It seems I was retrained, not on purpose though. I used my left hand until I went to kindergarten and school and then I suddenly only used my right hand or asked someone which hand was supposed to do what. (Everybody in my family is right-handed!!)
I had trouble writing with right from second grade on and now we're supposed to write a lot in school, so I came up with a plan to learn writing with my left hand. That was before I found out that I was left-handed as a child.

I've been trying to write with my left hand for two weeks now and I'm really slow, but hey, I suddenly have a handwriting that looks great!

I was retrained in grade two- had a crazy teacher who thought that if you wrote with your left hand you were a demon child or something like that- and being who I am I fully support her belief that I was possessed (not really but I can appreciate the thought). I wrote with my right hand until six grade and got many letters home on my extremely horrible penmanship. Then I randomly injured my right hand and had to use my left for six weeks - that's when my family randomly decided to tell me I used to always write with my left hand and suddenly much neater handwriting- but it took years to write faster- I'm still faster with my right but neater with my left so I'll randomly switch mid-sentence sometimes, it really disturbs people if they are watching- try it sometime!

How about neither handed.....As far as handwriting goes. Comes out like chicken scratch with either hand.

Going into kindergarten i didn't know if i was right handed or left handed, so i asked my mom. she told me to write with the hand that i use most often. well i couldn't figure that out either, made no sense to me. so i randomly decided to write my with my right hand. been using right as dominant hand ever since. makes me wonder though if i was ambidextrous before kindergarten though. but i can't really use my left hand now though.

yes and yes trained back......resulting in an ambidextrious nature.

I was left to begin because of a blind right eye---it seemed the logical decision to see what I was writing...... though...no one noticed I was blind until almost adulthood though I told them constantly, and as such I was forced right resulting in a crink in my neck.....

silly form of social control really, to make everyone right handed and thus left brained....

I'm ambidextrious... and so was my Dad and grandfather.
In school they made me write with my right hand. Then one day I was called to write on the blackboard and I got so nervous and the teacher gave me the chalk in my left hand. I wrote what I needed to on the board with my left hand and I didn't even notice until kids started to say.. 'I didn't know you were left-handed'.
Then when my brother beat me up in high school and damaged my right hand, I had to write with my left hand... I discovered I could draw really well with my left hand (I was taking biology) but my handwriting itself wasn't too good.

I wasn't, but my brother was. (This should be in the main forum.)

That's peculiar!
