What was YOUR first word?

My first word before "Mama" or "Dada" was "Birdie".
According to my Mother I was 10 months old, and was with her in the garden where I pointed at a blackbird and said "Birdie".

When I was a bit older I recall my Mother telling me that that blackbird was called Eric.

The reason I have posted this today is because for a few days I have heard a blackbird "singing" outside my apartment. He sings most of the day. I realize that he isn't doing it to sound beautiful but to mark his territory so that another male blackbird doesn't stray into it.......... soon it is mating time, so he'll be looking for a female.

Anyway, I still consider the Blackbird to have the most beautiful & varied song of ALL birds.

I choose the actor. I observe NT's. I listen to their socializing. I practice it, so in social situations I can just emulate/mimic what is expected.
It isn't natural for me, but it enables me to "fit in".
It is VERY tiring and draining, but at least we can appear like them even though it is an act. Like being on the stage.
They can't see it is emulation, and so we are accepted.

It was "Lyde" which was how I pronounced my grandfathers name, Clyde.

My oldest son's first word was "Daddy", my oldest daughters first word was "eat", my youngest son's first word was "mine", my youngest daughter's first word was "titty" (she was breastfed).

Especially if they have older siblings! He was about 4 when he said it. We were so worried that something was wrong with him because he didn't talk at all. He made noises but didn't talk. The pediatrician checked him out and he said he seemed mentally normal and to give him more time before we started worrying about evaluations and all. This was before I knew I had AS. We didn't know he was deaf in one ear at the time either. We didn't find that out until the next year during a regular hearing screen. Once he started talking though, he has yet to shut up lol.
