The clay pellets of kitty litter, and just that ( no urine, nor solid matter produced by pets is involved here) are what I got tramped onto the wood floor, and on to the slate landing.

Dont have a kitty right now, but during the endless blizzards we had her in DC the whole town ran out of rock salt so I took to sprinkling kitty litter on to the cement walkways to the front door. It did give traction and kept the mail man from suing us. But needless to say it got tracked into the house.

Any advice in how clean up clay litter (and just that) off of wood,or off of slate?

I would sweep it first. If it didn't come out I would get something with a hard straight edge and gently try to scrape it. If that doesn't work then get a good scrub brush and a bucket of water and Murphy's Oil Soap and get down on your hands and knees and scrub away until it's up.

Is it just on there, or is it mashed down into there?

Been walked on for days. So alot of its prolly mashed down.
But Ill start with sweeping, and then up the ante like you said and see what happens.
