Guess who is turning 18 in a couple of weeks? :)

I'm not really sure what to think of it though. What was turning 18 like for you guys?

To be honest, I can't actually remember it.

Apart from reaching voting & drinking age it wasn't much different from 17.

I remember being rather anxious and depressed about turning 18, especially since it meant that I was becoming a legal adult. Literally the only part about it I liked was being able to drink at a bar and buy my own booze. Other than that, I didn't really enjoy it. Also, I still miss the thrill of underage drinking. :wall:

For me there were four significant aspects to turning 18:

1. Voting
2. Buying alcohol (I didn't drink, so no big deal there.)
3. Buying adult magazines (That was fun.)
4. Registering for the draft (Not so fun.)

 I was relieved. I thought sure that day would never arrive. I really wanted to move out and had to be 18.
It was mostly great.
The downside was, I got promoted at work. Different kind of stress level there. Hahaha, a bunch of people there (I was working at Hardee's) quit in protest, because I was younger than them and they'd been there longer.
Too bad they spent all their time goofing off instead of working, otherwise one of them would've gotten it.

I was scared. My dad promised he is going to kick me out of home once I become 18 year old. Fortunately he didn't. I am still living in my childhood house.

Other what I remember was me wondering about getting a driving license and being angry that my birthday is so late (end of November). I didn't want to practice driving in winter and taking the driving exam at the same time as my maturity exams at school. I was envy of my classmates that had their birthdays earlier, especially those from spring. They got their driving license exam during the summer break and were driving to school everyday since then.

I was also quite scared of getting my ID. I had to go to the office of the city all by myself and do the formalities. Fortunately a few months older friend went there with me and told me what to do.

18 Isn't a huge excitement in any of the states I've lived in in the US. For example, I don't believe you can legally procure alcohol in Oregon until age 21.

At 18, I got to give my information to the government in case of a draft!

I wasn't interested in romance until maybe age 20, so the 18 and legal thing didn't matter to me... and that's kind of all the extra freedom you get at 18 in the US for many states aside from being able to buy "M" rated games and "Explicit" music without an adult, yet, I never had my own money outside a blue moon anyway in those days :?

At 21, then you get to do pretty much anything that's legal, anywhere... that was a nice age mark. Though, I didn't try drinking until age 24, and have yet to be inside any clubs or casinos. Though, I guess I've been to a couple to six-ish bars since I've been able.

Mostly, my parents just started expecting me to be an adult at 18 and to lust for independence, freedom, and new family by the strike of that midnight... which wasn't so great, as at the same time, they crazily tried to hinder any decisions or actions I tried to make on my own, and in total honesty, still do even after proving myself time and time again, though now I just ignore them because I don't have to live by their rules.

It's not for a few years for me, but I'll probably just act like I did when I was 17.

That's true. I live here.

My parents are making a huge deal about it for some reason. I didn't really think much came with it at all, to be honest. It's not like people are going to take me any more seriously because I just became a legal adult.

I spent my 18th at the DMV getting my license and registering to vote. That was about as exciting as it sounds.

Apart from that, nothing else happened. It's just like any other birthday, really. You're one year older, but nothing changes. Graduating from high school was a big change, as was moving out of my parent's house. But just turning 18 didn't really mean much without those things that eventually followed.

You can buy M rated games when you are 17. At 18 you can buy AO rated games, of which there are very few.

Ever curious as to why Alex deems posts in Random DIscussion to be so important that there is no user delete function...

Redundant post was redundant.
