Are your pets scared of loud noises?
Our cat has been living with us for a month or so. She is usually happy and relaxed, but she seems to be very scared of loud noises like microwave oven. Today there was a rainstorm and thunder. Our kitty cat was crying out loud, showing stress by licking her lips (she does that also when my partner has friends visiting), shaking and walking near the ground. It relaxed a little bit, when we kept her on our laps and petted her. I could kind of understand her... I've always been scared of thunder, and I used to be unable to use microwave oven and other home appliances for their noise.
Are your pets afraid of loud noises? What helps them calm down?
My pit bull (now deceased) was terrified of loud noises and thunderstorms. She really should have been given a mild sedative on every 4th of July because she would actually attempt to dig holes in the floor to escape the noise. I swear that dog had doppler radar in her head because she knew when a thunderstorm was coming before any thunder was heard or lightning observed. She associated lightning with thunder which meant that any flash (including camera flash) would compel her to go and hideout somewhere in the house. She was adopted as an adult dog from a shelter so I don't know her history. Someone at work has a dog (a lab) that wasn't afraid of T-storms until he got hit by lightning while coming back into the house and literally knocked across the yard by it. From that day on that dog was terrified of storms.
