Did you apartment building have garbage chute?

In Poland, the most blocks of flats built under communism, are chutes, garbage, discarded rubbish landed in a dumpster that was emptied by the garbage trucks.

Since Poland is in the EU, we apply the EU directive on waste segregation. Now the Council of settlements, in many cities decide to close the garbage chutes due to the fact that the mixed garbage will pay 50% more. Not all council estates decided to do so.

Recently someone in an Internet video in which he called segregation of garbage, left-wing fabrication, because the garbage and so end then mixed in a landfill.
For this suggested that when the chutes will be closed, throw garbage out the window, so that our politicians and managers of estates will have job corresponding to their qualification

I say go for it.

The most the US does is separate garbage and recycling, but a few cities like Portland are also having people separate compostable garbage from non biodegradable trash.

To answer your question - I used to live in the Hollywood district of Portland, and the old apartment building there had trash chutes. They were cool.

There are apartments with garbage chutes? The building I live in doesn't even have a fire escape! Death trap... The doorbell is also broken, my landlord says it can't be fixed and I usually don't hear people knocking at my door. before I moved in it an older lady who I think was a compulsive hoarder or just not able to take care of herself any more lived up here. They even brought one of those big trucks to put all the junk in and they had to clean and repaint everything. This is an old building too, there could be asbestos and lead paint for all I know. Anyway, no garbage chute. Would make my life a little easier. We also have a recycling law here so I have to clean out glass or plastic food containers, sort them into blue bags, and put the regular garbage into clear bags so they can see if you've put stuff in it that you're not supposed to, and if you have they just leave the garbage there with a big sticker on the bag telling you what offending items you put in. Don't know why they don't have to do that in the rest of Canada, do they really think it takes too much time and effort? I know I think that sometimes and that it's doing absolutely nothing to stop climate change or whatever.

We used to call the garbage chute "the incinerator." I grew up in NYC apartment buildings.
