octopus walked onto beach and dropped a crab at peoples feet then returned to ocean. well, wobbled onto the beach

maybe the octopus had been well-treated by humans in the past [maybe extricated from a fishing net or such] and returned the favor, paying "tribute" to the humans it sensed on the beach, in much the same way that cats pay tribute to their human masters by dropping a dead mouse at the doorstep. just a SWAG.

That crab had been a nuisance and the octopus thought of a good way to get rid off him. :D

Octopi are timid, but they open up to humans over time, just like most animals.
