What would happen if one day aliens landed on Earth and announced that they were the inventors of all religions that exist all over the world? :) What would the reaction of people be like? :) (Especially religious folks who for their entire life followed the words of their holy books and especially those who were restricted in this or that way by this - like religious gays who didn't want to have sex for fear of sin and the like :) ).

People would try to kill the aliens and bury any evidence.

Sorry alien friends. =[

We'd make good slaves.

Which kinda answers why someone would invent religion.

What a thing to think of!

I'd say many religious people would simply ignore it and brush it off as rubbish. Or maybe they'll start thinking that aliens are gods.

This reminds me of a small part of the storyline of Dragonball. In it God is an alien that came to Earth by spaceship from another planet.

Interesting theory... I notice your rank is "the Borg Queen". Are you trying to give us a warning? Are we about to be assimilated into the collective?

If aliens arrived saying they had invented religions, I think the first thing that would happen is their would be a worldwide panic because aliens had arrived. I am really not sure how that would play out, but the upheaval over religion wouldn't go over well I think. I wouldn't be surprised if some places decended into chaos, and the aliens would be scratching their heads and thinking WTF?

But that begs the question 'Why?' Why did the aliens start these religions. Is there any truth to them, or were they social engineering, or pulling a prank?

Others would be falling over themselves trying to smooze the aliens and get the good alien stuff/technology out of greed. Some would be trying to have physical relations with them, out of lust. Others would be trying to destroy them, out of fear.

Some would be taking it logically and calmly but be extremely embarrassed about humanity.

Logically, if aliens landed and claimed they made up all of our religions, the religious leaders of the world would be the first to rise up and essentially say, "Bull-crap to that!" Then there'd be all sorts of backlash saying the aliens were heathens or demons or some other such thing, the truth of it all wouldn't matter, for in the grand scheme of things, organized religion seeks to get rich off of and exert power/control over those whom worship with them.

Now I'm not going to go on a religion-bashing rant, there are good people in the faiths of the world who do good things to help other people, but you can't deny there's been a lot of evil things done in the name of one faith or another through the years....As for me, I personally don't care what faith you are, nor your race, creed, or color, if you do me nor anybody nor anything else no dirt, you are welcome to sit down with me for a pint and some fellowship as a human being.

Just my two cents...

Many writers have speculated that ancient alien astronauts landed on earth in ancient times, and wowed our primitive ancestors with their advanced technology causing our ancestors to worship them as "gods" (or angels or whatever)-thus explaining alot of ancient mythology (including the Bible). So aliens inadvertently spawned religions (according to some).

I believe this all started back in the '70's with "God Drives a Flying Saucer."
