I find that when I hiccup, if I breathe in through my nose slowly, feeling the air on the bottom of my nasal passages, the hiccups end immediately.

The drinking-water-upside-down trick usually works, because I'm more focused on not letting the water drip out my nose and it goes away.

Hold your breath for an hour. I guarantee the hiccups are gone.

But you'd also be dead. None of those "cures" has ever helped mine. What what has helped me is prevention like eating less & some of the meds I'm on are occasionally used to prevent em like Neurontin/Gabapentin, Haldol/Haloperidol & also Pepcid/Famotidine helps because I take it for GERD(Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease. That only thing I found that helps after I get em thou is Protonix/Pantoprazol but other proton-pump inhibitors would probably work.

I hold my breath for a few seconds, then breathe out slowly. If that doesn't work, I just drink a glass of water. That usually helps.

Sometimes when I get hiccups they go after a burp. I'd do a few hiccups, then a sudden burp comes up, and then the hiccups have gone.

Does anyone know the science of those cures/tricks helping :?: They never helped me & I'm wondering how different/screwed-up by system is. When I hiccuped as a kid I was told it meant I was growing but I never grew while doing it.

I can burp with each hiccup and that fixes it for me by shortening the "hiccup attack". I couldn't always do this and hiccups used to drive me nuts. The trick is to kind of push/let it out just past the peak of the pressure curve. It's hard to explain but I figured out how to do it and it helps.
