I stick a straw in them and slurp them up as noisily as possible, taking care to avoid the peas that often get lodged and impede my progress.

I would like to eat dinner at your house for Thanksgiving this year. My inbox awaits your invitation.

Don't really like mashed potatoes. Even in the rare case that they're the perfect temperature and seasoned well, the texture still really bothers me.
If I had to, I'd use a fork though. No point in getting out another utensil if it's not necessary.

I don't like potatoes but when I have to eat them (which is often due to my parents preferences) I like them mashed.

I eat them both ways - spoon or fork, depending how they are served. Most of the time I cover them with sour milk (sour cream/natural yogurt/kefir) and then eat using spoon as dense soup. Otherwise I mix them with cottage cheese and seasonings(its filling to so called "ruskie" dumplings, just without dumplings xD) and eat it using fork.
My parents just put the potatoes (mashed or not) on their dishes next to meat and salad and eat it using fork. I don't like it. Potatoes taste well to me only when I mix them with sour milk products.

Fork but also by scooping them up with my finger. Somehow eating with your hands enhances the flavour of the food.

I vomit up my stomach, surround the mashed potatoes with it, and then swallow it again like a starfish. If there's gravy, though, I'll use a fork.

Mashed potatoes are one of those things that it's logical to eat with a spoon, but social decorum dictates that you eat with a fork- as opposed to say- ice cream- in which it is socially acceptable to do the practical thing of eating it with a spoon.

Technically, and being a Jain, I'm not supposed to eat root vegetables (potatoes, onions, carrots, etc) at all because uprooting those vegetables kills them and Jainism strongly teaches non-violence. Occasionally, I do eat potatoes and carrots because I have no choice. They come that way in cans of vegetable soup.
