For me, fighting (not self defense) just kind of seems pointless and nearly savage like. I just kind of look down on aggressors who just shout so much and try to be tough and want to start a fight.

Aren't humans supposed to be evolved creatures that have outlived the day's of acting uncivilized savages? I mean its just really pathetic when you see someone shouting and threatening people and then try to start fights. That person just seems very pathetic to me. It almost just seems like the one's who start fights are just sub-human creatures that have no civility to them.

Personally when it comes to fight's, i like to avoid them. And if, say there are 4 or more dudes coming after me then i'd rather run and live another day then get some bones broken or get some brain damage.

I agree with you. I regard them as subhuman creatures, too. I also classify them in the "trash" category, too. You can't reason with them. It's pretty much like dealing with an animal. If you find one around, you had better just keep away from it. And I would definitely run away if one comes after me. There's nothing you gain from fighting. You'd end up being dead, brain-damaged, disabled and/or imprisoned.

Seriously, even if you are just defending yourself, you could end up getting treated as someone who participated in a fight. You might be able to prove your innocence later, but it's not a pleasant process to go through. You just have to run away!

Sometimes you just can't run away. When I was a school kid I got bullied from the age 5 onwards in a state school in a rough neighbourhood. The bullies did everything from call me names to steal my pocket money, lunch, tear my clothes or beat me up. One day aged around 9 I snapped and despite the main bully being larger and older than me I broke his arm. He never gave me or any of the other kids any trouble again after that. My childhood was filled with these bullies and those that ran away got caught eventually one day; the ONLY long term defence was to stand your ground and give as good as you got; then they left you alone and either quit bullying completely or switched their attention to softer targets.

Fighting is likely still very instinctive within us. There have been some very new studies done on the evolution of humans in this respect and it is suggested both the skull and hands have developed to an extent to facilitate punching (or taking a punch).

Perhaps encouraging is that the skulls have also shown a reversal trend away from needing to be so protected.

But where such armor and weapons are in nature, you can bet there is also the programming to use them. You will have to wait quite a while to see significant change, or resort to either stringent controls or genetic engineering.

If someone is trying to (hypothetically)

-Steal my car
-Flirt with my girlfriend
-Insult my parents
-Be an extreme and intentional annoyance
-Insult the Bears

Place a bet and take a guess that I'm not going to just ignore it and walk away.

In agreement with the OP I do believe the resort to violence is virtually always the stupid answer. There is always a much better solution, and often many better options to any problem.

The problem is that people do not seek the best solution. Almost any two people on earth are capable of determining better solutions then violence. They just do not do it.

Intelligent beings that fail to use that intelligence, is humanity.

I am not talking about the response to violence, self defense, etc. I am referring to the situation where people resort to violence in the first place.

i was only able to defend myself when they started hurting me. i would do anything to avoid a fight.

i guess i could put up a fight if i had some arms - noodles likely won't serve me much use.

i've had dreams where i would get into a fight and all my coordination went out the window, i felt exhausted, my arms and legs going everywhere they wanted and nowhere i told them to. i would be stumbling and unable to move while my opponent would yell obscenities at me. i don't recall getting hit on those dreams...

what does this all mean.

i've never even gotten into a fight, i avoid them all.
