My grandmother on my dads side was renowned for not only being eccentric but also 'very selfish'. She had 3 sons (one of the three being my dad) and her husband (my grandad) died in 1991. My grandma passed away of breast cancer in 1997 aged 68.

According to my mum her boyfriend/lodger at the time would sometimes have to persuade her to babysit me and my brother when my parents went out to social events. My mum said my grandmothers attitude was something like "there not my kids why do I have to look after them?"

Do you think my grandmother had the wrong attitude or not? She loved going on cruises, social gaterings and holidays with her friends. And in the time leading up to my grandfathers death she 'hated' him for having to take care him cause of his cancer/diabeties.

I think your grandma liked doing her own stuff & resented being put in positions where she couldn't. My grandma on my dad's side liked the social things too & commented on various occasions that she didn't want to be a professional grandma. I'm not going to judge mine or your grandma for that because I like doing my own stuff too & I don't want to ever have kids, let alone be a grandparent.
