Obsession with countries

Does it ever happen to you that your interests have something to do with countries and their culture?

I was obsessed many times with various countries but not to a really big extent. Recently, it was Greenland and its culture (I do know it's not a country as such - you know, its dependence on Denmark and the like), before it was Austria (I was obsessed with the case of the infamous kidnap of Kampusch), I was also into Somalia and Saudi Arabia.

the country that is the biggest obsession for me is my own creation. others are france, finland. israel too.

You can say I have a partial obsession with Vietnam and its people. My novella, Wetland, is about three Vietnamese brothers. Some of my past boyfriends have been Vietnamese. Unfortunately, some of the drug people I ran with were also Vietnamese. I've studied Vietnamese history and I love Vietnamese cooking such as pho and banh sandwiches. One of my favourite restaurants is called Vietnam Saigon Deli. It's in the Little Saigon area of the International District here in Seattle. The last book I read was a cookbook/travel guide called "My Vietnam" by Luke Nguyen. Yes, I'd love to visit Vietnam someday.

Is it because of their " interesting " history by that I mean incredibly bloody history. That stretches several centuries, not just the most recent century.

Yes definitely. I tend to move from one to another over time, as something about the place, people and culture catches my interest. Sometimes it is after visiting the country. I find the subject pretty fascinating. It's not as serious as some other special interests but has been consistent.
