Anyone who has gotten so used to hearing a machine whenever they make a phone call that they are surprised when a real person answers will probably find this story amusing. My mother once got a phone call from a guy while she was at work and he thought her voice was just just a recorded message (she also does the recording on the answering machine). He must have been just a few sandwiches short of a picnic, because even after my mother told him she was a real person and not an answering machine he was still convinced she was a recording. How could she be if she was replying to him and answering his questions? It took a while, but I think she got things straightened out with him. Sometimes the stuff she tells me about work sounds like something out of a TV show.
